Beverly, like you, surgery is a last resort. Once they start mucking around with your spine, and adjacent structures, too many chances of things not working out, or degenerating in surrounding areas meaning more surgery later. I was in the ER once, the lady was in a wheel chair, could not hold her head up from failed surgery. My heart went out to her. She realized I was there about my spine out of whack from my own posture, and talked to me for 20 minutes with advice, bless her.
I will take your advice and keep moving! I'm locked up at the moment so going at a snail's pace.
hug!

Laundry Diva, thanks for constructive input! Sorry your profession had to be put on hold. Heal up and feel better soon!
I've tried the tens unit, long ago. It helped a lot when things first began.
Now, this is a serious question, not one of my jokes: how in the heck do you place the tennis balls under your gluts? Sitting or laying down? I'm sure my husband would get a laugh helping out with that.
My PT actually has his doctorate, I wish every PT in the country was as skilled and dedicated as he is. So many people would benefit. And, he is well educated about alternative practices, not fringe stuff but tried and true. He felt called to be a healer, and that's what he is. He keeps his fees low, even for hands on body work, and a large portion of his practice is dedicated to helping issues from stroke recovery, Alzheimer's patients, severe accident victims, joint replacements, and all kinds of spinal issues. I wouldn't go to anyone else for PT!
hugs, Louise

I have two tens unit. I put one on the right side, one on the left before bed. The pain is relieved enough to usually let me fall asleep. I used to be a massage therapist and got regular bodywork monthly. But I have had to take a break from it to get myself well. Physical therapy helps, but only if you find a good PT! A bad one can make you SI problems worse. I use tennis balls on my gluts, just lie on them and the pressure helps calm the nerves.
Wow! It feel Sooooooo good to get advice from a older person-it makes me feel that God put them there right at the moment I want to kill myself(just a phrase I say-smile)!!LOL. I have NO thoughts of having NO surgeries at ALL. The doctors will have to come up with something new for me-LOL take care…Beverly L.

I am sorry to hear about all the pain you have. I am in the process of getting my issues diagnosed, and they are almost identical to what you describe.. I had no idea what an SI Joint was, or even what it can do to a person if it is inflamed. Thank GOD for this place, because I was able to get some direction.
I have a friend who has his own Chiropractic practice, and he recommended that I find a sports doc because they ususally have more information to help with area's like the SI Joint and hip issues.
I will be happy to share anything I learn along the way.
I'll be using the links and asking about the belts, but wondering if they will fit since, well, I'm more than a tad chubby. Sorry to hear you go through this literal pain in the buttocks. Your tips are appreciated. And hurray, I talked my doctor into sending my for physical therapy. This was after he sent my pain through the roof checking the range of motion on my legs, I'll be getting my appointment set on Friday the 8th.
Since you are the "queen of gadgets" you may appreciate this idea. t don't know how to go about getting an actual working prototype. The premise is bum spinal disks like cold, but muscles like warmth. When your spine is unhappy the muscles guard it, and for me it means long weeks of muscle contractures, only broken by intensive PT. Cold makes that worse. So the idea: have a back sized pack like the microwaveable ones filled with beads, BUT the center is insulated except for where it touches your spine and is filled with a simple flexible freezer gel pack as wide and as long as an average size spine. (maybe half length?) I can see it in my head. The actual engineering? Not up my alley. How's that for a gadget? Haven't seen it anywhere on the market.
Thanks for the offer to share MamaMarshall, I'll do the same. I'm fortunate to have worked before with an excellent physical therapist who is versed in all sort of wonderful skills. I'm grateful he is honest with me. When we have gotten as far as we can go, we have a sit down chat, and I continue my home exercises, but stop coming in. He is very understanding of not wasting his patients time, energy or money. Glad my post struck a chord and was helpful, but sorry you are dealing with this. Healing thoughts and prayers for you!
