SOS lumbar, sacrum issues, probable sacroilliac joint as well

forgive lousy typing, extreme pain off the chart, unable to function.

Have 2 long known bum S1 and several above discs, plus DDD, arthritis, history of fractured sacrum 35 years ago, hip pain that seems to be muscle guarding, connective tissue and probably SI joint on one side. Pain in thigh, not sciatica, had that on other side, nerve burn took care of it. NOTHING helps this . MRI tomorrow. Crying for days, barely walking, loss of control of certain functions, unable to walk more that inches at a time, unable to drive not used to high powered medsFeels like broken bone, plus usual spine gone bad stuff. Quite sure not myofacsial or fibro,

If anyone has had to deal with similar or the same, would you please post back to me with what helped YOU (may or may not help me), how you got help (right kind of doctors etc), and procedures that could have less than desirable side effects that you know of. If like better, send a private message, is fine.

DESPERATE. Need help, and ticked, my doctors answering service would not even tell him I called over the weekend. I never call. am a get to the root cause gal and treat it as naturally as possible, not pain med seeking kind. They can bite me, and he will find out.

took forever to write hope it mmakes sense. Thank for listening, and any helpful advice.

hugs, spoons, positive energy, love, hope, whatever you need, may it come to you.

perplexed.

Your are in such distress. I hope this can point you in the right direction.

If you're having spinal problems and your vertebrate are grinding on the nerves and you have loss of bodily functions and you can't walk, you need to go to the emergency room right away.

I have lots of problems with my vertebrate, hips and spinal cord and my doctor told me that what you are describing is an "emergency."

Please get the help you need. I guarantee that the ER folks won't get ticked off because you're cranky from severe pain and discomfort.

You got to hold on. Bless you. Let us know how this turns out.

Thanks for replying USA Girl. seems emergency case to me, but not anyone else. Went, was going to be in chairs they said 6+ hours? Also, o imagin available until shift change at 7 a.m. Beginning of month, everybody in health care gets swamped, grocery stores too, due to gov benefits coming in. Doc wrote me script for muscle relaxer this morning, hasn't helped much but able to sllep an hour here and there as it kicks in. Have a suspicion after MRI today they will directly admit me. Don't mean to complain, pain is talking. can manage short painful steps to get to bathrrom (takes 20 minutes to go 25 feet) if leaning against wall as I go, and thank goodness they make products to use so acidents don't become borrowed water hazards. The shaking, and numbness up top are scary. ankle and knee on worse side of body are buckling on me, not wanting to hold me up.

I have broken a couple of bones before, worst frear is fractured hip, or the SI joint is blown. Treatment not mych help for this, but rehab physical therapy and steroid injection, surgery if last resort can help. Really hope I'm worng, short chubby chics don't take to crutches well. If had a cane might be of a little help, but fear a motorized chair looming in future. In my 40's. ugh. Tend to reject pharma stuff, too afraid to do surgery that could make me worse. Not being negative or down, but realistic. But one step at a time, do the testing, see results. Then decide.

Thanks fr letting me vent. almost 5 a.m., have to try and wash up. Husband taking me, got off work so I don't have to try and drive. Will count blessings and what is good, try to stay positive. Everything happens for a reason, right? the why will turn up when it's needed.

hugs to you, and thanks.

Perplexed.

I am so sorry you are in so much pain. Please go to the Emergency Room. I am 52 .. when I was 32, experienced excrutiating lower back pain, could not walk, put my foot on the floor, etc. At that time, took 4 advils every four hours for 24 hours. This went on and off for a while, spasms falling to the floor (I called fish flopping back then). Extreme pain. I understand. Your DDD could have gotten much worse, turned into stenosis/forminal stenosis, radiculopathy, spondylarthopies. What it sounds like because you are having issues controlling certain functions (which I have experienced - was told I would) is forminal stenosis - the nerves from your spine control your body (even the front); there are "holes" the nerves go through in the spine to reach around controlling other body functions. If those "holes narrow due to osteophytes, arthritis, bony whatever, your nerves controlling your muscles will not work correctly. I have forminal stenosis everywhere. You need to go to the Emergency Room as soon as possible... Please go. They will do MRIs and the doctor you will likely see first is an Orthopaedic. Please do not delay ... go right away. You will be in my prayers and I am sending big hugs!!!!

OSP: I had to look where you lived before I replied. I am surprised the ER would let you sit in a chair that long when you are having incontinent issues. Triage should put you to the head of the line. That alone tells me that you have a major problem in your back that is urgent. Personally, I have used a neurosurgeon for my back surgeries. I have never regretted the surgeries because the quality of life became so much better. The second surgery I waited too long so now I have constant nerve pain (radiculopathy) but it is still better then before the surgery. I wish you the very best!

I was experiencing the same thing bilaterally. I used a neurostimulator for five years. It blocked the pain but toward the end of the five years, I began dropping my right foot and having bladder and bowel issues. I was putting off fusion because I already had fusions from T8-L3 from scoliosis. My neurosurgeon had a plan to remove all of the old stuff and put in new and extend it to my sacrum. I hadn’t been up for that but I didn’t have a choice now.

Luckily he had developed away to add to my fusions and that ended up fixing everything. I haven’t had any shooting, breath taking pain since the surgery.

PM me if you want more info and good luck!!!

I've had 2 back surgeries, L5 & S1. The helped a bit and I saw an Orthopedic surgeon after seeing an asshat of a Nuerosurgeon. That was in 03 and it is still holding strong. It caused nerve damage and chronic pain. My pain doc, along with meds, inserted a spinal stimulator. It helped...the battery is dead now. It interrupts the pain signal to the brain. It helps most during the night.

Just a couple of ideas.

Thank you everyone, so sad so many others know what I am dealing with. MRI today was painful - there should be a law thtat they have to make them more comfortabl. My tech was awesome though, did everything to be patient, make me as comfy as possible. my appointment with doc for results isn't until Monday, but calling fisrt thing in morning to get in sooner. I need some real help. Neurosurgeon did my other surgery, but swears it could not possibly cause many of the nerve issues with me now I didn't have before it. "Probably in your head". So will be seeking a new one.

bless you all, and may your own challenges become far less interruptive of your lives. have to go, in tears.

seeing something with wheels in my future...
