Hey everyone-- hopefully everyone is having a good day so far!! The reason I have started this discussion is to encourage everyone to try and participate in a WALK TO END LUPUS NOW. I'm sure many of you are aware of these, but I'm also sure that there are some newly diagnosed people who are unaware as well. Since the NYC walk is just under 8 weeks away, I felt this was a good time to post this...
Every year, the Lupus Foundation of America hosts walks in many states-- some states having more than 1 event. These walks give us an opportunity to raise awareness of Lupus, raise funds (for educational purposes, clinical trials, etc), and also to have a good time. It is also the opportunity to mingle with others who have Lupus.
Personally, I feel these walks provide a sense of community, in knowing that you are not alone; you are all there for a common purpose. I also find it a great way to get my friends and family involved in a portion of my life (having Lupus), that I generally keep pretty private. Considering none of my other immediate family members have Lupus, they're given the opportunity to learn new things and feel somehow involved.
So please, follow thing link that I have posted below, and find a walk close to you. Create a team or make new friends and find a team to join! If you're not able to walk, you can also volunteer at the events or even just raise money for it... this is for us!
Just like the past few years, I will be participating in both, the NYC and West Haven, CT walks....Hope to see some of you there!!!
