Swollen Glands

So I'm wondering if this is a result of taking immune suppressors because it's never happened before but for a week or so, I've had some yucky nasal drippage and I didn't think much of it but then this weekend, I had a swollen gland just under my chinline and by the next day, I had visible swollen glands even along my collarbone. My neck hurts so much that turning it and the seatbelt hurt. The doctor said it was a bad infection. Is this common? Will I be getting worse infections now that I am on Plaquenil (and Celebrex and a bunch of other stuff)?

Hi Lynn,

The immune suppressors should'nt be causing this...although every drug we take do carry side affects...your actually suffering from swollen lymph glands (nodes) and the cause of those can be many reasons...these links below may help you but if it keeps on i do recommend seeing your doctor and if he/she wants you on antibiotic's always try to take no more than 2 lots in a year..less is better if you can because although antibiotic's try to help issues they also lower our immune system even more.

LynnMath,

So sorry you feel this way. I have nodes swollen on my neck in a variety of places, constant sinusitis, nodes under my chin/tongue, nodes on my jawline and misc places above the neck. I was told when diagnosed with Lupus that I also have Sjogren's and that the nodes were due to this. They will come and go, but usually in the same places. He keeps a watchful eye on them to check for lymphoma. Do you know if you have been tested for Sjogren's? If not, I would get my doctor to run testing. Hope that you do get to feeling better. Tami

Hello Tami,

I suffer with these issues also and knowing you have Sjogren's....Ben as done a seperate site for Sjogren suffers as i have it badly.

If you want to join it the link is: www.sjogrenssyndromesupport.org there's great info on the new site.

I saw the doctor first thing yesterday morning. This thing really hurts - even the seat belt hurts it! She did put me on a strong antibiotic for a week. I have to ask the rheum about Sjogrens. I was tested for it years ago when I officially did not have "anything" but I am now taking medication for it. I'm not sure if that's because I have the symptoms or because the rheum thinks I have it. This really sucks too because I also get a colonoscopy etc. this week. It's that old "When it rains, it pours" thing.

Hello Lynn,

I am pleased you saw your doctor and i hope the antibiotics help but these swollen glands do hurt and the pain off them at times can be terible.

Well lynn taking meds for it, i'd say the rheumo knows one way or another by your bloods you need to really find out because Sjogren's alone can be worse with it's symptoms in one way than Lupus especially if you get it secondary like myself and many more.

Best of luck mate with the colonoscopy had one myself this year...to tell you the truth if we're not suffering bad issues..it's hospital and god knows what end of tests to go with it.

All my love to you Terri xxx
