So since I’ve been ill the past couple of years the damage to my tendons has be wide spread and excruciating… as of the past couple of months I’ve developed extremely painful shin splints, my primary diagnosed it … it will happen just from standing in place for 10 minutes:/ I have diffused tendontious and sometimes tenosynovitis but this feels so much different in a bad way. My left shin to ankle area has spots of thrombophlebitis in it so its already always very tender. Im 103 pounds so extra weight is not an issue. Im also very diligent about drinking water and staying hydrated because I know dehydration can cause mussel aches(charlie horses)… Has anybody else developed shin splints after getting sick and any advice? Thanks:)xo
I had terrible cramps and shin pain for years to the point I could hardly walk at times. Turned out to be low vitamin D levels just saying. Once I was on vitamin d it all went away. If my levels drop it comes back. It’s my warning sign. I too thought like you that is could be dehydration.
But it is something worth getting checked out by the doctor seeing you have tendon issues.
Good luck and let us know the outcome.

I battle this frequently. Gatorade helps and I read that pickle juice helps muscle cramps. You drink it after exercise. I’ve never tried it but I know it helps with cramps. Bananas are also good. My son would get horrible leg cramps after baseball practice and his doctor told him to eat bananas every day and to drink Gatorade to rehydrate. He’s very athletic and needed the electrolytes. I hope you find relief soon.
I have this constantly. My rheumy thought it might be related to me bad knees but I know it’s not. I can be lying in bed and the shin splints ache. Also happens to shins and ankles when in driving.
My vitamin D is in the normal range, but the low end) so now I take supplements. I see no difference yet.
Oh, also, it gets much worse after over-extending myself like doing something drastic like going to the grocery store
I also ice my knees and sit for a while and that helps.
Steroids can cause tendon problems, some can get severe. Also, if you were on either Cipro or Levaquin for any infections, they can cause tendon problems too.
I have the pains in my legs and Achilles didn’t think it was related to lupus. I’m glad you posted this I will talk to my rheum about it next visit. I hope you find some relief.
