Pain in feet!

Hello everyone I’m new to this site and just learning how everything works! Right now I’m in a really big flair, my doctor has upped the prednisone to 40mg and tapering it back to my normal dose of 10. I’m at 35mg now. The problem is everytime I go down in dosage my feet start hurting so bad I can’t stand it! It’s the bottom of them. The pain is horrible! Maybe the tapering dosage is to high, 5 mg at a time. I’m also on Arava, Benlysta and Plaquenil for lupus.

Hi. I just had a bad flare a month ago. My palms and bottom of my feet hurt so bad i couldn’t touch anything and couldn’t walk. My doctor said i have to eat bananas to replenish the potassium that was lost and i was prescribed gabix to help me cope with the pain. Doctor said my potassium level went so low that’s causing the pain, like burning sensation.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you Piper! I’m eating a banana right now!
Debbie

Hello Debbie,

I'm not on prednison as i refused it but i've checked on it and Piper is correct in what she's saying it interfers with your potassium levels which then causes trouble with your feel...i hope that banana went down well.lol

I can eat to much fruit as my potassium level goes through the roof and makes my kidneys bad.

Thanks guys you are awesome! I go to the doctor on Monday and I will have him check my potassium level. In the mean time it’s bananas for me!

Debbie (scottieintx)

p. s. I forgot to mention that my sodium level has been low due to a medication I’m taking for seizures. They have me on liquid restitution, 1 liter a day, until they can safely get me off of the medication!

When you go to your doctor, ask about Gabix too. This helped me. And to help you with your potassium level, ask your doctor about Kalium Durule. I took that 2x a day for 3 days.

Thank you, I will.

Deb

Hello Debbie,

How are you feeling now regrding your flare and feet?

Hi Terri,

Thank you so much for asking! I seem to be doing a little better. I’m still eating bananas. Haha… I was supposed to drop down down to 30 mg of prednisone so I did. It made me really tired and achy, but my feet are not hurting as much as they were before. They are still hurting, just not as much! Thank you so much for the advice about the potassium. I see the rheumatologist tomorrow and I will discuss the meds you told me about, as well as get him to check my potassium level.

xoxoxo…

Debbie

Hello Debbie,

Your welcome and it's nice to keep ontop of how members are and coping.

Well i'm pleased your doing abit better and banana's are good for you, i can only eat one 3 times weekly and i can't touch fruit in general to much...suffering with my organs, fruit sends my kidneys sky high in potassium and apparently it can be dangerous to your kidneys the doctor told me.

Well dropping down on the prednisone and not aching so much it sounds lik that's what was causing you the aching and tiredness...i refused it when they offered it me in the day unit.

Well i hope all goes well tomorrow and point al issues out mate as it's important but really tell him/she how your aching bad and how you've felt lowering the prednisone.

Would you please let we know how you get on and all my love Terri xxx

I'm getting over a cold what hit my lungs bad, my legs hurt besides cracking of ankles and toes and besids that the usual pain in my body besides my organs kicking off when they want but i keep going nothing else we can do Debbie.

Enjoy your day best possible. Love Terri xxx

Terri,

What a wonderful sense of humor! I’m sorry you’ve been so sick! It’s so horrible that a cold can turn in to something so bad for us! Hang in there girl! You have the right attitude… LOL…

Hi debbie. I’m glad your feet don’t hurt as much. When your doctor gives you the meds for potassium, the durule i took for only 3 days, the pain will significantly drop. But ask your doctor first. Then when i started taking gabix to help me cope with the pain, in a few days, the pain left. Banana has been part of my diet since. I’m also taking another supplement, i showed it to my rheumatologist and she gave me the go signal to take it. That helped me with my kidneys. Read through it on my blog if you have time. The title of my post is Going Natural.

I hope that would help you too.

Blessings…

Hi mia. That’s very useful. I have one too but I compiled everything in folders, arranged by dates. I have one for all lab tests and another one for all prescriptions. That way when my doctor starts asking questions, it’s easy to refer to my medical record.

Hi Debbie
I too a new to this horrid disease, however you have come to the right place! The women in this group are AMAZING and will NOT point you in the wrong direction! I don't know if you have one, but I bought a medical journal and document every appointment and all of the tests etc...it has been SO useful when I go to all of these appointments! Praying for you! Hugs,Mia

Hi Debbie,

It's not so much sense of humour it's reality...what ever we're faced with cope with it best as possible and try your hardest not to let anything get you mentally because once that happens you mays well throw in the towel...look at life like this there's more people out there worldwide in worser situations and some people have illnesses where they don't know what day it is to the next...so we're all lucky to a certain extend...we're lucky it's not a disease that does your marbles (Meaning brain sorry) in straight away.

You takecare of yourself and keep fighting strong.:) xxx

Hello Pia,

I checked out your link and jule of the orient...firstly i can't take herbs because of my meds not to with Lupus but other issues i suffer as herbs counter react with meds besides i have IBS and i've had to cut out a few foods already through irritation and pain and reagrding the fruits i hate ginger.lol and the cranberry etc...if i eat fruit it's banana, prunes in yogurt mixed, tinned bears and strawberries, the main issue with my organs besides the potassium is the sjogren's is dehydrating them out...so when they start paining me bad...it's because they've gone inflammed i've been offer IV infusions and i'm going to take it...if the QE will except me with my history and meds i take.

Thank you so much otherwise for thinking of me and i think your blog is presented in a beautiful manner. :) Terri xxx
