Constant charley horse cramps

So I have this issue that if I move a certain way or stretch my muscles in a certain way it will cause a charley horse. This happens all night long while I’m trying to sleep and it’s getting worse. Even during the day if I move a certain way it will cause the same spasms. What is this about? It’s so uncomfortable and painful.

Are you hydrated? Try a banana and Orange juice every day, potassium. I wen through something like that last summer. A friend suggested that and more fluids. If that doesn’t help you gotta talk to your doc.

I would also have your vitamin D levels checked. Sometimes low levels can cause leg cramps.

Let us know how it goes!

Everyone is right. Try that. I had same thing for years. My bones ached. No one listened. Horrible pain. Vitamin d taken. No more pain. My muscles feel like they are in constant contractions and in a vice. Never stretched my legs or charley horses. Told drs for years. A friend mentioned she took vitamin b complex from walmart. I tried it. Instantly stopped the nerve pain from it and some of the muscle pain. So angry at the drs for doing nothing when a darn vitamin stopped it. Never believed in vitamins til lately! Do everything said above and get vit d, also improves energy, and b complex. We should all be on those. Many say potassium and magnesium so a good all around vitamin too! Contractions require potassium and magnesium for muscle to contract so have levels checked.

I'm not sure if this is any help or not, but I was for a time also experiencing painful charley-horse-type spasms. It was worst in my hand, when it would feel like one of my fingers was trying to replace the finger next to it and spin itself around completely backwards. It scared me besides hurting, and I asked my rheumy about it. He told me that it was my nerves repairing and growing new pathways, and the spasms were the new electrical information being fed through the new pathways. It made sense, considering that the finger that did this most had had some nerves severed a long time ago due to an injury. After a while the spasms stopped, and I only occasionally get muscle twitches now. I know it doesn't help much with the pain of it, but perhaps it might shed some light and hope on the situation? I hope it gets better for you soon!

I used to get these big time, and started trying natural remedies and found some that work! Tonic water each night is good because it has quinine in it, same ingredient as plaquenil. If you are taking plaquenil and still getting the leg cramps, next thing that helps me is magnesium and calcium. Often just eating a banana helps because of all the potassium in the banana. They hurt so bad, don't they?? I started getting these spasms body wide, even broke a small bone in my foot, but the magnesium seems to have stopped the problem for me. Check with your Dr. to see if you can take it with whatever meds you are on now. I also have used Midol or Pamprin, they have a mild muscle relaxant in them, they are used for menstrual cramps, but even my hubby used them for his back pain. It helps but I still like magnesium better. Oh yes I'm sure the vitaamin D has helped that too. Vit D helps over 50 body functions, and it helped nerve pain and spasms for me.

I just had my magnesium checked and it was normal. I went to the pharmacy today and bought vitamin D 2000 and potassium and B12. I’ll take the b12 tomorrow morning in case it keeps me up. The other 2 I took so we will see how tonight goes. It’s been happening in my legs, feet and toes. It’s even happening when I’m driving now which scares me. Could this be coming from my back injury possibly?

Probably not from back. I should have said the vit d needs to be tested by the dr. They have found very low levels in lupus patients. I have prescription vit d which is 50,000U a week. Over the counter won’t really do it. Should have said that. I’m sorry. I wasn’t clear. Better than nothing though if u need to wait to be tested. Do you take a muscle relaxer?

No I don’t take a muscle relaxer.

This happened to me with extreme potassium deficiency! It spread to cramping on my entire body in various places on and off all of the time:/
