Plaquenil vs generic

I am going to start plaquenil 200 mg twice a day. Here are some questions I have. 1 Are there some different between Plaqurnil and generic version Hydroxychloroquine? 2. Does anyone breasts feeding while having Plaqurnil ? 3.where we get our medicine ? Since it will be use for long term, where is best place to get refill? My local cvs ask for $300 + for Plaqurnil and $69 for generic one month supplies. Can I get online? It Canada pham safe?

Thank you for helping

Generic is same. Walmart has it pretty cheap. If not, then go to pparx.org to get any medicine cheap. Fill out form. I was hooked up with a company for $22 in Florida. Also can go directly to manufacturer and ask for help. Don’t know about breastfeeding but I would be hesitant. Be careful with pharmacies outside us. Really have to know who u r buying from.

I started taking the generic when it came alone. I never saw any difference except that the generic isn’t coated as well as name brand. It doesn’t taste good. I take my meds with juice, it helps. You need to take it with food, even if it’s just a couple of crackers, and that also helps, plus protects your stomach.

It took three weeks for my nausia to subside. Side effect. But it was worth it. Took two months maybe more to help but I have been on it for 16 months n it helps a lot. Good luck. I too take generic.

I take the generic. Its the same! The side effects were awful the first 6 months but now i see a huge difference and no side effects. I take both pills at night b4 bed now instead of twice a day

I have had SLE 20+ years and have taken both the brand and generic forms. At first, I became nauseous and had to take a break. But now I am fine with it as long as I eat first. Ask your Dr. about breastfeeding and taking any meds. Wish I could be more hhelpful. Take care.

Hi,

I take the generic, like everyone says it is the same. I was having trouble with the price going up from $30 to $250 for the generic, when I got it at Costco. A Friend that is a doctor, set me up with his pharmacist friend, and I got it for $30 a month. He told me that the drug was trending up in cost, but he had bought some when it was cheap. Kind of like gas prices, they go up real fast, but when the price of the product goes down, they keep selling it at the high price...

Good luck!

1) Although the main active ingredient is the same for generic and name brand, there can be different "other" ingredients. Think of the binders, colorings, preservatives and such. I was automatically given the generic at the pharmacy and had a head to toe reaction to it. Hives and rashes. This is rare though but seems to occur more often with the generic. I am one of the few who cannot take this medication. ( To be fair: I am also allergic to sulfa, penicillin and pseudoephedrine. )

2) Consult your Dr or Pharmacist about breastfeeding before starting. (Out of an abundance of caution I personally would avoid it while on most Rx).

3) For long-term Rx I use a mail away pharmacy. Many insurance plans offer a discount to you for filling maintenance Rx 3 months at a time. This is best done after you are sure of medication and stable dose. I get my first new Rx's filled locally to make sure I have no reactions and have been titrated to the correct level before laying $ out for 3 months of meds.

I would avoid out of United States supplies.

Many people do very well on Plaquenil or generic hydroxychloroquine. I wish you well and keep asking questions.

Sophia, Try getting a free card with www.goodrx.com or you can call them at 1-888-■■■■■■■■. They saved me $120.00 on 1 prescription for 1 month. Someone on this site suggested that I give them a try and I am so glad I did! I use generic Plaquenil and for me, it is fine. Most people do not seem to have a problem with generic Plaquenil---but I am not the doctor---just a fellow "Lupan." Do you have a medicine book which lists drugs and what precautions you should take when using them--such as being pregnant, nursing being elderly, etc.? I use a Canadian company for generic Synthroid---same med as we get here from Abbott Labs. But I could never afford it without looking around for a better price. Usually, Walmart and Target offer some good prices through special programs---such as Walmart's $4.00 generic program. I hope you get some good answers and I bet you will---you have to be as resourceful as possible. Good luck and all the best to you!

Hi

I wish I could help you. 1. I take 200mg hydroxychloroquine twice a day. I don't know the difference. My mouth sores are gone and my hair loss is better I don't have much joint pain. I hope there isn't any

2. I don't know about breast feeding. I'm 74 LOL. 3. I am on medicare and don't pay much for the med. I would guess if you can do mail order, that would be cheaper. Sorry I wasn't much help but someone else probably will be.

Take c are.

Cindy

Thank you for all useful information and warm support, give all a hug!

I use generic. I just get it from my regular pharmacy.

I have wonderful ins that paid for most of my meds, so I can not help you there.

The ins only paid for generic and the pharmacist (CVS) told me it is exactly the same.

I could not stay on it long term, it ripped my gut up. Maybe think about probotics, ask your dr and pharmacists, I was told it was o.k., but still had to stop, I just could not tolerate it.

Best of Luck to you!!!

I get mine from Target pharmcy .generic I don’t know if target pharmacy is safe or not butbit is cheaper.

Hi molly

I wouldn't worry about the safety of Target meds. I get mine from Sams Club. I love thre pharmacists there. If a doc prescribes something for me that has an ingredient that I am allergic too (and there;s many of them) they let me know and call the doc.

Take care.

There is no difference between the brand and hydroxychloroquil,I take the generic. Your local pharmacy carries both. Do you have insurance, $69 dollars is high but I have insurance through my employer. I have been on it for 12 yrs. Your doctors will write u a prescription for it. asia64
