I was doing really well, but I guess my body's getting hit with something--stress, pericarditis, virus, PMS, anemic? since I've been on the Plaquenil I haven't needed any naps, but for the last few days I've taken 2hr naps. I'm super achy, cold, and my skin feels really sensitive, almost like certain spots are on fire. Stress from school is a little better since I was able to knock out a paper Friday night and get it out of the way. But my chest still hurts like the beginnings of pericarditis. I have my period right now too, but I've never had flares during periods or anything. I also wonder if I managed to pick up some type of virus while doing my clinical at the hospital. I'm on a medical/surgical unit so we have a little bit of everything. It's not like I'm on a cardiac or dialysis only floor. I always wash my hands (washed so much they shrivel up and bleed) and wear gloves. And if a patient is on contact precautions (like for MRSA or something), I ALWAYS wear the yellow isolation gown. Even if I'm just going in to hand the patient a cup of ice, I put on the gown when others don't. I'm really hoping it's just from my period and being a little anemic and not from something strange I picked up from someone or something. Yuck!
On a good note, I got a 100% on my most recent exam! It was all about arthritis, lupus, gout, etc. so I had the personal experience part helping me out on that exam. :) See, some good can come of this crazy disease--I can relate to my SLE patients and ace exams.
Super job on your exam! Knowing how difficult concentration and memory issues can be for us, you should be extra proud.
As to the other thing...I go through a "flu-like" episode every single month. Just what I need on top of everything else. Higher fever, achy, congestion, fatigue, terrible cramps, horrible night sweats. I feel your pain. It's like "hey guys, not using it anymore why don't you just take it out" but they don't do that anymore because of the hormone issues associated.
But, like everything else, this too shall pass.
You are doing something that makes a difference to patients like us and that's a wonderful thing.
You are an inspiration.
XOXO,
DeAnne

Maybe that's why my husband hardly gets sick... he eats lemons! Doesn't make a sour face or anything. I'll start squeezing more lemons in my water and hot tea. I'm trying to rest as much as possible and I'll just have to bring some Motrin with me to clinical this week to get me through the days.
our husbands always seem to have the enrgy and immune systems of a 18 year old!
