I sign on today to update...While yes it was so very fun to be able to go out and have some independence, it was short lived. Out of desperation for someone to do something for me I went back to my first surgeon who did most of the work on my knees to date. I had explained to him my situation and that I basically wanted him to do a surgery to help my pain with my slipped kneecap and torn quad. While I was there he tried to pull fluid off my knee and my pain level was so high I couldn't even feel the needle. Whatever he did have in the syringe he sent to the lab.
A call from the doctor a week later burst my bubble. He told me I have a staph infection and another infection that was very hard to treat with antibiotics. He believes I got this with some graphing they did in my last surgery in February. Solution??? I have to go into the hospital in a few days and have my total knee replacement removed and filled with antibiotics. I will basically be without a knee for three months and spend most of my time in a hospital bed in my living room. After whatever I have leaves my body I will have another surgery to put a new knee back in.
All this information is finally sinking in and pretty much scaring me to death. I am doing my Christmas shopping so I will have gifts for the holidays. Hope Santa will bring me some relief this year.
I am so grateful to have this forum to be able to share my story with such caring people listening. Times can get pretty overwhelming and to be able to just come here and discuss my fears is so therapeutic.
I hope to be able to check back in from time to time. Hugs to all of you.
I am so, so sorry to hear of your troubles (which is nowhere near a strong enough word to describe what you are going through.) All the stuff you have to have done sounds absolutely horrible but I hope that it will give you back some independence in the long run. Smart you to go Christmas shopping- I think I would be too paralyzed by fear to do anything. You are obviously a very strong person.
Hang in there. I know you will be better and stronger after all this is done. Hugs, MB
So sorry for the complication but at least now you have some answers and a treatment plan Prayers that the antibiotics work rapidly and give you some relief
Oh, Aunt Pearl, I am so very sorry. Way back this was not uncommon but now it seems more rare. My hubby's aunt had this happen and it was due to going to the dentist after her knee surgery and getting infected. She was one of many this happened to and hence why we all have to take antibiotics and hour before any dental work. After my replacement I was put on antibiotics as a precaution so looking at my next one next month I hope that the surgeon does the same thing for me. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Gentle hugs!
I have a friend who had this happen with his hip and another who had it happen with her knee. The friend with the infection in his hip replacement spent 3 months in a nursing home with no hip. I saw him last month, as he walked into the bar where we were having a reunion! He looks wonderful and feels even better! I hope and pray that you have that same feeling very soon!
I am so sorry to hear of your pain and other problems I don't know what to say but hang in there and may God be with you. You will be in my prayers. I hope that does not sound too lame but I really can't think of anything else to say. I hope that all of your problems gets better soon.
Dearest Aunt Pearl,
That just stinks! On the flipside, good for you for going to get yourself some help! I shutter to imagine what would have occurred if u hadn’t, yuck! Maybe this will help a bit…In Feb I was hospitalized because I was losing sight in my right eye and we didn’t know why. It was terrifying. My care was good, but I decided that rather than be petrified, I would pretend I was on a spa vaca. Now don’t get me wrong, there weren’t no Margaritas nor pool boys, but the nurses and I sure had a laugh or two. This really helped me to cope with all that followed, and I hope it will help you as well! Sending Healing thoughts! K
I am sorry to hear the news but glad you are going to receive help. Will you be able to post once you are home. We could be a great comfort to you while in the hospital bed at home. I will pray for you.
You are very lucky that your doc listened as a staph infection is very dangerous. I know that having to stay house bound is the pits, but it could be much worse.
There is good news and bad news there. The good news is they will treat that infection and you should be feeling better soon. The bad news is obvious. I’m so glad you finally got to see someone. Leaving it any longer could have been dangerous. Good luck and keep us updated! We’ll be praying!!!
All my prayers and thoughts are with you. Pamper yourself in any way you can both now and after. Like have some new or favourite movies linked up, favourite foods stash in the pantry and freezer. Buy a book you have wanted and tuck it away for homecoming. Anything to help you feel special and loved and cozy (fuzzy warm socks?).
Many blessings to you and stay in touch as you are able.

Such wonderful advice!! I so believe in trying to make the best of a situation and yes it is hard to imagine right now but I can always smile or laugh. With all the pain meds they will be giving me I just might see a pool boy or two...lol Thank you for caring enough to leave such a nice comment.
Hugs,
