I had a minor surgical procedure to remove a spur under my extensor tendon which was creating an ulcer from rubbing on the shoe. The surgeon fashioned a water proof bandage by placing the adhesive used for IV lines over gauze. Within 24 hours my foot was itchy. I went to the surgeon again today and my foot was bright red and puffy due to a contact reaction to the adhesive. He was surprised as the adhesive is usually benign. I am now using topical hydrocortisone and my new bandage is only gauze…,.no adhesive in it.
I’m allergic to adhesive too somwtimes I can use paper tape and I just had a total thyroidectomy because I had cancer and they stitched me inside and put derma glue on it. It itches a little but I was so worried because all of the pictures I had seen of anyone had tape or steri strips holding it together. I always make sure they know because sometimes the reaction is worse than the wound. Hope you’re feeling better
I have a similar response to adhesives and plastic. I canot even wear the hospital if bracelets without breaking out in a miserable rash. I am sorry you has that reaction. If it wasn’t an open wound I would recommend Benadryl gel, I carry it everywhere. Maybe oral Benadryl would help?
Today the foot is a bit less red. I wonder if our bodies are just so hyper reactive to everything
