LilLupie,
It's interesting you post this today..... I just had blood work drawn yesterday for Iron and Vit B. I am waiting to get the result, but I have been anemic before so it won't surprise me. Have they checked your Vit B and your Vit D? I'm deficient in Vit D as well. I'll let you know when I get my results...
thanks for sharing this ....

I was anemic as a child. I remember being so tired. You will probably feel better soon. It's nice to get a diagnosis and meds to help you
Feel better soon.

I have low iron also. My rheumatologist told me to take iron pills or a multivitamin with iron.
Hello
I have been on these meds for awhile I also take vit D. Drink plenty of water the iron pills can be constipating.
I have been anemic since my early twenties. It was another ah-ha moment when they finally figured out in March this year I have lupus.
I take folic acid because I'm also on methotrexate injections.

being anemic is common with SLE people. Problem is taking iron pills usually make most people sick...very harsh on your body.
I could not take prescription iron ..shots are out..too dangerous. What i did was cook in cast iron to help me get even more iron and if you cook tomatoes or other acidic foods in them really leaches the iron out of the pan. This helped but marginally. Eventually, NP told me about iron supplement from the health food store..,'floradix'..iron and herbal supplement.
It finally did the trick....weird part is when i am anemic i crave red meat. i am not vegetarian strictly but mainly so if i now get hungry for meat i eat it or fish. If eat fish look on your local aquarium or Monterrey Aquarium about safe fish to eat.
My husband has hemochromatosis ...which is too much iron in his blood. I said they should just give me transfusion of his blood!! Or to any of us anemic women....also women who are still having monthly periods is normal for you to get a bit anemic during your cycle.
It is also important that they find out what kind of anemia you have as you could be bleeding internally. Multivitamins with iron...those are not strong enough to make you sick.
I also took folic acid at precription levels and i think now it is standard for those with SLE.
i took the meds today for the first time so i dunno if they are working yet lol but i did find out that i cant take one of them with levothyroxine which i am also on but im sure i will find away threw this same as other things. thank you for replying everyone
Hi Trisha,
I constantly have anemia. I have to go to the cancer center for infusions about twice a year. They are a series of 4 infusions, although it can be done in one if your body can handle it (mine could not). After the infusions my iron began to rise until it got to a point that I could stop for a while.
I am anemic again, so must go through the infusions again, but the energy I get from them is worth it.
A hematologist is the doctor that I see.
Just a suggestion. Hope you feel better seen,
Hugs,
DeAnne
