Seen my doc on Friday, he told me based on my blood work and symptoms that I do have lupus. Note that my ANA was negative, but my Anti histone was very high. My vit D was very low and that is with me taking daily vit. D. Also my thyroid levels are on the low side. I do suffer from Iron deficient anemia that I have to get iron infusions for every 3 months. I also have low B12 and do shots. I am happy that I have some sort of answer and now a plan to better health. The flu hit my house and all my family made it through much better then me, I am still right down so sick. I hope that I can start to feel better and have some of my life back as I have felt that I am just watching life pass me over. Does anyone else have iron deficient anemia?
Hello, I will ask my mom to get on this discussion because my mom has just about all those things. She's had lupus for about 4 years but first got diagnose with R.A in 2006. Plus she has some other health problems but I believe she can help ask some of your question plus visit a couple rheumatologist and get some answers if possible. Hope my mom can help with a couple of your questions. I'm glad you got an answer from your doc. Hope the best for you.
Despite the answer, figuring out what is wrong with you always seems to bring a sense of relief. I take B12 supplements every morning, and I also am anemic. But for me, I take Ferrous Sulfate 2x a day. Getting sick, to be honest, it sucks. But all I can say is you have to be patient with it and yourself. I had the stomach virus that was going around back in December, and though I was physically down and literally sleeping for 2 days straight, it took me about a month before I was even able to eat 3 solid and legitimate meals a day. And when I tried to eat regular food earlier than when I was able to, I ended up suffering more. So although this seems like a crappy answer, just be patient and take care of yourself so you can get better!
Hi and yes this is a new thing for me with low Iron.
Are you a vegetarian by chance?
My doctor put me on a very highly absorbed iiron supplement by Thorne Research and we will retest in a few weeks.
I have never tested low in iron before and I have been diagnosed with autoimmune for many years.
Let me know if you want more information on the supplement.
What is your vitamin D at?
Mine was low too when I started out but now is very high.
Take care
Lori
This sounds almost exactly like my diagnosis. I had low Vitamin D, low B-12, low Iron, everything. After several years of taking daily Vitamin D, B-12 and B Complex, and Iron, I finally have fairly normal readings. All of these are still on the low side of normal, but in the normal range. Getting my vitamin deficiencies sorted out has made me feel better. I am not as fatigued and "blah" feeling now as I was. I still have issues with Lupus and Fibromyalgia, but I definitely feel better after dealing with all the vitamin problems.
Yes, mine exactly. I have Hashimotos though (under active thyroid), low b-12, anemia, low-D. Sle with kidney involvement (severe Lupus Nephritis) and discoid. My dr. Says he can’t verify if my anemia is from low iron or long term CellCept user (9 yrs) There are also conflicting reports on which vitD, D2 50,000 units is what is prescribed to me but when I take an OTC of VitD3 1,000 my body seems to respond better to it and I feel better as well.
Can somebody explain to me why one of the most famous well known Lupus drs in America doesn’t every mention that I should try vitamin b12, b complex or any other vitamin? I came to him on d already. Since trying some of these my health has improved a lot. Horrible neuropathies he just shook his head at. Horrible fatigue. I am so angry with him and we are going to have a discussion about this next time!
