I'm new! I had a question about symptoms

I’m not sure if this is lupus related. I have had some new symptoms that are ongoing in addition to the rest. For a month or so now I have been running a low temp. I feel tired and almost like I have a flu right before I take my temp. It’s been reading 95-96 degrees Fahrenheit. I have used several thermometers to make sure it is accurate. I have also been waking up every single night in a puddle of water from sweat. No matter what I have on or how cold it is… I sweat. Is this a common symptom with lupus patients???

Hello Jennifer,

This is another symptoms with Lupus and so many members suffer it daily, you should get some good responses for this off members.

Sometimes it can stem from thyroid and Adrenal imblances which seem like the menopause but are'nt...i hope this link helps in the meantime.

I do this too, i was doing pretty good and yesterday morning i woke up (after a sleepless night) and felt like i had the flu, aching all over, i do this often, i will feel like i have a fever and check it and it is the same as yours, and i sweat profusely, then i will get the chills, i dont know if this is lupus or fibromyalgia, i have also had a hysterectomy but that was years ago, i am on hormone replacement and i have not had hot flashes in years so i know its not that, it is just different.

Wow Teri! I'm 50 years old (argh) and I've often wondered how I'm going to be able to tell the difference. It appears it really doesn't matter. hahaha

Christy,

Try and keep out the sun as much as possible because although we can cover up besides wearing sun cream...the heat still gets at we bad and drinking water does stop dehydration but for how long plus there's your organs to consider.

Sweating occurs in hot and cold weather with Lupus it comes with the territory and makes no difference.

So please be careful :)

If I'm out in the sun for long periods of time I will feel this way.
I woke up one night sweating like crazy and had a temp like yours too.

Does this last a couple days for you? (It does for me)

Drink a lot of water, not that it will heal you but I feel like we need to really make sure we drink enough.

Yes great article tez!!!!

Thanks Terri, So much great information! I love this site, everyone is so helpful and supportive.

I have had a lot of blood work done including my thyroid. All my blood tests came back normal except all the labs that indicated that I have lupus. I feel like everyday something new happens or I develop another symptom. I’m always wondering if its lupus or something else that I should concern my doctors with. I’m do burnt out from basically living at the doctors office. This morning for example, my left shoulder, arm, and then leg all went weak then I passed out. I am debating on saying anything until my next appointment bc it may just be another lupus symptom. I’m overwhelmed and lost I guess.

I've felt the same way, cold sweets, feeling feverish but no fever, you don't have to carry a fever to be sick. Below is a great site that should answer a lot of your questions about

Understanding Lupus

Thanks tez! That article was great. The symptoms were spot on with me, every one of them! I just went to my Rheumy yesterday and she did say that it was definitely a connective tissue disease that I have, along with Raynaud's and osteoarthritis in most of my joints. I asked her if that meant I had Lupus or not and she said that most likely it's Lupus but she hated to put a definitive label to it yet as a lot of the connective tissue diseases are so similar with the symptoms. I go back in 4 months for more tests. In the meantime I will be taking 90mg of Procardia and 200mg of Plaquernil (sp) along with baby aspirin for the Raynauds. So I guess I'm officially a member of the family here. Although I really didn't want this diagnosis at least I know it's not all in my head. I've had the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia for 20 years now but there were just too much going on that didn't fit with it. It doesn't ease the pain any but still glad to know what's going on with me. I go in next week and have TMJ surgery and will have to have my mouth wired shut for 2 weeks then have bands in my mouth for another 8 weeks. I'm enjoying real food while I can! LOL I would love to chat with anyone who has had that done to maybe get some pointers.

Hi Jennifer, low temperatures are very common for me. I've always told the doctors when I see a new one that if my temperature is 98.6 then look for an infection somewhere as mine is normally below 97. I wake up every morning with flu like symptoms and bad pain in my legs and back. I had my knee replaced last July and thought it was a lot better but the last couple of months it has been sooo painful. My rheumy suggested going back to see the surgeon to be sure it has healed well but not sure what he can do as most of the pain is actually below my knee down into my shin and calf. I also sweat extremely easily. The least amount of exertion or sometimes just excitement about something will set me off and my head is completely drenched in no time. I can't remember the last time I arrived at church with a dry head. LOL I'm glad to see from other posts that it's normal with us. :o)

Sounds like what I went through when I was going from doctor to doctor 20 years ago and finally found a good Rheumatologist that diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia. So little was known about it then that many doctors either thought it was a temporary condition or didn't believe it even existed and that the symptoms were all my head because the blood tests didn't show anything. I had to buy a book on it and give it to my family doctor so he would at least know a little about it. My family doctor that I have now is great and has studied Fibromyalgia so knew what I was going through but even he didn't think my situation was anything more than that. I told him about the Rheumy thinking I had Lupus and he was amazed at that saying he felt I was "too old" to develop it. I learned with the Fibromyalgia that you just have to take matters in your hands and do the research yourself and get involved with groups like this that will back up what you are going through.

Hello Jennifer,

What you are experiencing could be related to so many things, I had lupus for 21 years and my Rheumy would normally be concerned if my temp. Was around 99 degrees because for me that would be a indicator that my Lupus is becoming active/ or I'm having a Lupus flare.

What i will recommend is that you contact your Rheumatologist and ask to be seen as soon as possible. Also contact your primary medical doctor and discuss your concerns as well. For myself 95-96 degree isn't even on the scale of having a temp however everyone is different. Remember Lupus mimics so many other illness so if you feel like the flu it's a possibility that may be what you have. I mean from your symptoms that is what it sounds like.

However with a medical condition like lupus you can never be so sure and you want to find out what it is and treat it before the stress of it , if not lupus actually cause a lupus flare. Hope you feel better and this helps some.

Talk to your doctor about vitamins and recommending a nutritionist because fatigue is a part of lupus that will always be an issue that researchers have yet to figure out why chronic fatigue is so common in people with lupus. With a better diet and maybe some vitamins you can get some energy back.
