And yet another annoying issue!

The palms of my hands and the soles of my feet will randomly turn red and itch and burn like crazy! This has been happening on and off for a couple of years, but seems to be more frequent lately. There is no rash at all. Just turns bright red and Is hot to the touch. The burning is moderate but the itching is intense! Ice seems to be the only thing that helps. Anyone else have this particularly annoying issue?

my feet will get so hot I actually pack them in ice

This happens to me sometimes, they actually appear mottled. It was quite disconcerting before my rheumatologist told me what was going on. It is still very annoying.

My forearms sometimes get red and mottled, as you say, and they itch and burn to the point I want to rip my skin off....is that possibly the lupus rash? I run cold water over them until I can barely stand it to calm it down and sometimes that doesn't work. What causes the rash? I think about it and the forearms are about (other thans face and neck) get the most sun exposure as I drive to and from work....? Does anyone else get something similar?

That happens to me on the sole of my foot and it always happens at night. I wake up with this uncontrollable itch, but I've never known what it is. I'll have to try ice next time it happens.

I still get it too…ice seems to be the only help. Mine are also rather “blotchy” looking. I also find my forearms sometimes get red welts that are intensely itchy…but they generally don’t last more than a couple of hours. I kind of thought my arms were an allergy to something…but maybe not. I know I’m allergic to dog saliva…yes weirdest allergy ever but if my dog licks me I get hives that burn and itch like crazy. I have to wash the area and put ice on it to settle it down.

Fingers and legs for me – to the point I can’t stop and want to cry sometimes. I am going to give the Cetaphil a try ASAP. Thanks for the tip. I’ve tried Benedryl before but it just made me sleepy.

I have had this too. I thought that maybe it was part of the raynauds that i have with the lupus. It seems that my hands and or feet will be very cold for a few hours then they will go red and hot and itchy and then sometimes there are spots of white. About the other rashes on arms and legs- I used to think i had developed all these allergies but i think that the lupus causes some of the rashes and that folks with lupus have more sensitivities to chemicals ect.

Roni- latley i have got stabbing pain in the ends of my toes after the cold purple phase is done and when they are going red- do you get this? I am going to ask my doctor - i have read that there are meds for raynauds that might help.

I have heard of the allergy to dog/animal saliva…that isn’t so strange. It does happen!

I tried ice and it is great!!! Thank you!!! Why I didn’t think of that is crazy but am thankful you all mentioned it!!! Yay!

Oh…cetaphil sounds promising too! All great suggestions!

This sounds a bit like erythromelalgia, which is part of the AI disease family and often undiagnosed. Patients with EM may also have Raynaud's. Ice is not generally recommended for EM.
