What do you like to do to occupy your time with?

For those of you who aren't able to work any more. What do you like to do to fill your time? If you do crafts, what kind of a craft do you do?

I'm hoping all of us can share our ideas to help others (including myself) come up with new things that we can do to fill our time.

Thank you,
Ben

Since I have been home on a sick leave I have been reading novels, going to the pool and attempting to get some exercise and doing some abstract painting with acrylics. I have a 2.5 yrs old and taking care of her takes up most of my time. I am trying to think of this time off as an opportunity to do some of the things that I never had the energy to do when I was working.

im on the sick at the moment so i watch movies, get out for walks and things when i can, my friends come over to see me, i draw, listen to relaxing music... i need some new ideas though because it can get very boring sometimes :) :)

Great discussion! I'm newly a homebody and trying to transition into this lifestyle. I've had all my scrapbooking supplies in storage and I'm going to start again.

I'm considering going back to school, I don't know whether to think about a Master's degree or just a certificate. I've been reading, but not daily like I'd like to.

I love animals, and feeding the birds and playing with my puppy are fun for me. As I can spend more time on my feet, I can walk her more.

I enjoy playing games on my computer. And for the last few years I have been working on Ancestry.com, learning about my family and where they come from . And I have meet a bunch of new relatives. It's really neat!

I make jewelry to honor my "lupie and spoonie" buddies. I also like to hand sew pincushions and ornaments from vintage quilting pieces.

I like to watch a lot of lifetime movies & crime shows!! I also stay on my phone and Internet a lot… I love spending & doing things w my 3 daughters!!! I really love taking pictures a lot and have a lot of them. Most of all I love writing an have since I was little I have hundreds of notebooks about everyday of my life!!!

I was deemed as disabled last year. What a lifestyle change!!! Here are some things that I do depending on the day & how I'm feeling. Hope this helps!!!

Dinner parties (get togethers with close friends & family)

my sons, 21 and 24 dont need me anymore (unless they want something like food) so i spend most of my day talking to my dogs. i am a huge animal lover and was in a rescue group, and was a volunteer at my local animal shelter, (just not able to do it anymore) i also do wildlife rebah and have returned to the wild various animals such as opossums, squirrels, rabbits, turtles, snakes, birds, and racoons. i have 5 dogs, 1 cat, 1 possum (that thinks hes a dog) and a parrot. Brandy is a black lab mix, moses is a pitbull mix, jr. is a shepard mix, molly (17 yrs. old) is a maltese poodle mix and my little pie is a chiwawa mix and she has a brain and spinal cord tumor we are fighting (yes i am dog poor ) and cutie the cat is 18 years old, i call this the old folks home, since everybody is old or sick, i have had my girls a very long time. im gonnsa need counseling when there gone and i know it want be long. willie the possums mother was killed by a car and i raised him and his 5 other brothers and sisters, they were all able to be returned to the wild except willie because he was sick. possums normally only have a life span of 1 1/2 years and he has lived 4-i know yall probably thinks thats gross but they are truly just like cats, he comes in and out of the house, uses a litter box and gets a bath once a week.

i sit with my aunt who has alzheimers and dementia a few times a week, she has children or husband and she is a sweetheart and dont want to be alone so me and my mom take turns sitting at the nursing home, and thats my life, oh, and new swimming pool last year so cant wait !!

My daughter would be so freaked out! She is terrified of opposums. I say they are cute.

I quilt and sew mostly. I am doing some gardening again but very limited. I plan on joining a quilt guild in my new hometown with a friend of mine that quilts. Another friend wants me to join her swimming at the Y that is close to where I live. Who knows all the opportunities waiting for me!

I didn’t know possums could be domesticated like that…

I read lots of novels, and walk my dogs, recently I started taking Lily to dog training - where they always tell me I should walk faster, of course they don’t know that it’s an effort just trying to keep up at all. I’m also doing a sculpture class which I love but it’s very physical - good for my hands I think. When I am feeling fine I sometimes make a cake but not
Too often. Finally I try and have a little walk fairly frequently - I say for my dogs but I enjoy it too.

I've had the blessing of always being a housewife, though admittedly I've never been very good at cleaning. I've always loved to read books, and have just recently discovered the fun of borrowing library books from home with my Kindle. Unfortunately their selection is limited, but I'm hoping that will become less of an issue the more time that passes.

I also like to dabble on Gaia Online, where people trade site currency for uniquely colored 'pets'. Those pets are then used in stories, written usually by two people together. I love to write, but find it stressful to write seriously. Thus this works well as a creative outlet for me. I used to participate in coloring those pets in Photoshop, but my tablet didn't like my new OS, so I had to junk it. (Coloring or drawing with a trackball is not so successful!)

I also love to draw. Again, I don't do it seriously for the same reasons as writing. I just let myself express my feelings or imaginations via the art. I prefer pencils, but have been teaching myself to use Prismacolor pencils now too. (I also secretly loooove crayons!) I used to use acrylic paints, but I'm not really set up very well for painting, so I haven't for a long while.

Besides all that, though, I'm a gamer, of sorts. I really only play games on my PC (with the exception of Mario Kart!) because it's easiest for me. Closer to the screen so that my eyesight is less of a problem. Some of my favorite games are: World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls games (Oblivion, Skyrim... really looking forward to ESO!), Sims (my son bought me Sims 3 Pets for mother's day with his very own money! What a sweetheart!), the Myst series (though those are old news now, they still were awesome), and Need For Speed: Underground 2. I'm currently taking a break from WoW, which I have played from its beginning and have taken long breaks from in the past. (If anyone here plays WoW, though, send me a message! We can share Battletags!)

As for watching shows, I have quite a few that I follow. Doctor Who, CSI (original and NY), NCIS (original and LA), Warehouse 13, Touch, Bones.... I seem to have a preference for either sci-fi stuff or crime solving stuff, hehe!

I am also disabled, but do work a couple hours a couple of days. When I am at home, I love to cut coupons and organize them in a book to save money at the grocery store. I also watch tv for many hours and go on the computer to facebook. I have picked up many old friends and new ones from the past. I experiment with different receipes and sleep a lot when I am not cooking.

I also pulled out the pictures and scrapbook supplies. Found out though that I can only do about 15-20 min work and then my pain starts in the back.

Would love to learn to crochet since I can sit longer in my recliner.

Facebook has helped me so much. Makes me feel like my friends are right here with me and giving me support.

I used to love to do cross stitching and crocheting. I only know how to do the granny squares at the moment but really want to learn different types of styles. I do like movies but try to limit myself on tv time because I don’t want to become
used to it. Sometimes I try to organize things. I made a really nice
calendar with important dates and anniversaries. It was fun to do. I don’t like facebook as much because people put some lousy stuff on there. I am already trying not to be discouraged so I don’t like to see people airing there lives in continuous compliants. I try to have house plants to give me something to do. I do try and cook when I can. I love to try new things. I know I’m mot a child bit I really enjoy playing a great video game with my daughter. She is great at shooter gamew lol. We also try and go to the duck lake when the sun is low and isn’t so hot, like dusk.

I still work but have occasion to have to cone out of work. I enjoy making ginger bread Houses. Crocheting, writing short stories and poetry. Volunteer at nursing homes

I quilt...I have made several cathedral window quilts, and quilted tote bags, throw pillows, and aprons......I just finished a "crazy quilt" quilt top because I have a lot of fabric scraps .....and I am just starting a "shades of purple" quilt consisting of grandma's fan blocks so far. I hope to actually quilt the tops this coming winter. I also do oil painting and acrylics painting........and I spend a lot of time on my front porch just watching the birds and butterflies, I have a small flower bed around my porch :)
