Finding employment?

Yes, right now I am working my way back to feeling better and finding doctors who are a better fit, but I have way too much time on my hands, and need to do something constructive. Being a lump on the couch isn't cutting it.

I have been home so long I do not qualify for disability or the programs attached to it that would help find employment, so on my own.

What kind of work, even part time, have others of you been able to do? I'm very out of the loop. I don't think former jobs would suit, worked with the public and now I catch anything and everything that goes around. I even thought of volunteering at a local nursing home, but again, too risky health wise for me.

Thanks for helping me get started thinking.

Have you thought about working from home? There are customer service jobs that are home based. Is that something you'd consider?

Good morning

The fibro site has a group for working at home if you would be interested in a job at home ill give you the sites I have been to. What are you thinking about doing?

Hi purple butterfly,

I'd be interested in what you're talking about. What site would that be? I used to work with Arise.com. It didn't work out for me, but maybe it would be a perfect fit for "oh so perplexed" :)

Good afternoon everyone. I have tried to work from home several times, and got burned on two of them, not on the up and up. I have considered coming up with a small inventory of handmade crafts, and try to have an etsy or ebay shop. I used to make things and sold them on consignment at a gift shop, that closed. I do know if doing crafts, do them very well, and aim for the high end market, or you work really hard with a good chance to not break even on your creative works. You have to find a niche that suits your abilities. I would never sell anything I would not want to buy for myself or a gift.

Prefer to be out of the house. I need to meet new people, to expand my ever closing circle of friends and acquaintances. You know how it goes with chronic illness, people run like you are on fire. But what to do? clueless. In the thinking about it stage. Trying to find inspiration.

hugs and thank you.

I finished my Master’s program in May and had planned to rest and relax over the summer before teaching in the Fall. I’m bored silly. So I feel your pain!

I have work for many at home companies, below are some.

if you like animals you could volunteer at your local animal shelter or for meals on wheels i am considering one of the two-just to get those poor dogs out of the cages and walk around in the grass, they are so grateful, up until last year when i got so sick i was doing this on the weekends when the shelter for closed up or on holidays and to see the looks on those elderly patients faces will just make your day, sometimes you are the only person they ever see, it is so sad, i have been very negative lately, maybe that is what i need, i go for my 2nd rheumy appt. next week and see what her plans are for me (im a newby) and go from there. i love animals (got a zoo here)

Hi, we all ,(some), are in this boat with you!!! There are somedays I want to just go to my old job and talk to the manager to let me be a on call no show fill in. Just sitting around has become so boring. Everyday this thought come to mind, but of course that is only in my mind-LOL. I can’t hold things in my hands and I can’t stand for long , nor sit for any length of time without having to go lay down. So , I just stay at home and try to fight that thought away! It is not fair , but hay! , what can we do? Is the question I find myself asking myself all the time, the same answer comes back , Nothing! I have tried doing survey online , that did not work! One or two things happened for me to stop doing that: 1.you have to qualify with the company before some of them offer a survey to you through the company that you signed with to get into the system, 2.you have to do so many surveys with the company that you signed with from the start, most of them were .50 to 2.50, and you have to do all of them that they choose for you, 3.it add up, but you can’t get the money that you made , unless you have the balance that they require you to have before you are able to get what you have made, 4.last but not least, you have to pay a sur change for them to give you the money, which is not worth your time even if you have made more than they require you to have to get it!! That really made me depressed because I would do so many during the day and stay up all night til sometimes to the next morning, just to make a couple of dollars that I could not get , because it did not make the required amount. WOW!! I would spend alot of time doing them, for them to say ,“there is not enough in my balance to request the cash, keep trying”, funny right??? So, yes I stopped and request them to take me off their contact list. There should be something for us out here to do!!! I have thought about taking a online class, but of course that probably won’t work either due to having brain fog at times-ha!ha! My son says, go volunteer somewhere if you want to work, but of course who will pay me?? I would have to get to and from work , gas is not free and no one will just take me just because , without asking me to pay my way, or to take public transportation , I will have to buy a pass and not having or making no money, who will pick up that tab?? Really this is crazy, and am so tried of it, so am with you!! What is there for us to do?? When we apply for disability, Social Security , should have something to help us -I think!! Especially if we have been told by doctors we can’t work(maybe one day),this will come-I hope. So in the meanwhile we have to go through this moment and sit on the couch. Hope that this let you know you are not alone with this thought /feeling, good luck…Beverly L.

I am going to find out what website my husband refers family and friends to for local listings, set up an account, and see what might be feasible. At least I could get an idea of what is out there. May be dreaming. Dreams are good, finding realistic ones a bit harder. For now, I guess deal with cabin fever, and try not to nut up.

If I find anything, will let you know. Right now I have to focus on getting rid of the lung infection. another week on medicine, and then I will know better where I stand.

hugs to everyone in the same shoes as me, and extra to those who mange to work!

I used to do credit restoration for mortgage brokers in our city. I was very good at it, but my memory issues got so bad that I began not being able to adequately represent my clients.

I know that medical billing coding can be done. Tutoring via webcam is a possibility. I don't really know what to suggest, but you are intelligent and surprisingly more and more jobs are being done from home.

Best of luck, sweetie

DeAnne

I make candles as well as the scent beans for simmer pots. My nieces help, but I give them as gifts and they are always a hit. As scented as Yankee candles. I love to do crafts as well, but it's difficult when you don't know from one day to the next if you will be able to physically do it.

Hello ,

I hope all is well with you. I myself cannot work a traditional job. I am awaiting a disability hearing however I am a personal empowerment coach and a internet marketer mentor/trainer. I help people make some money on line by training them how to use the too;d to do so. I also help them with finding business opportunities that is a fit for them. I love online marketing. If you haven't you should look into it and if anything feel free to connect with me should you decide to do so. Have a blessed week...

Hi-

I am having the same problem, being a lump & wanting to do something. I am on disability, thank God, 4 every minute it seems I feel better or worse. I often wake in the am feeling so hopeful, full of energy, happy & then within an hr, I often feel like I have fallen off a cliff.

Being on disability is so helpful, but it doesn't cover enough. I have no health care, but when I did, there really wasn't much they could do. They meds they gave me, did not help, 4 the side effects were awful.

I would love to do something useful, helpful, etc......I live in an isolated area, so there is not much around & 90% of the people have large families & I have none, so it is hard to fit in. I moved here 3 yrs ago from NY (now in Mass) & still just can't seem to find my way. Does anyone relate to what I am writing or can anyone help me?

I don't want to sound as though I feel sorry 4 myself, 4 I do not, I am just lost..........

Peg,

I ended up in KY for 5 years, virtually alone because I divorced my husband shortly after moving there. It is incredibly hard to find people to relate to in an unfamiliar place. I took some classes at the local junior college, many of which are paid for by VocRehab. It was a great place to meet people and maybe learn to do something you have been wanting to learn. Painting, sculpture, gardening, etc.

You are not a lump and not worthless. I make candles, bath products and other art type things. A lot of great ideas on the internet.

Big hugs,

DeAnne
