I wanted to post my story in order to help others on LWL suffering from vasculitis. I developed vasculitis at the beginning of June. Since that time my the ankle has been swelling daily. I have very little pain with the swelling. I just figured it is my body being my body. Nothing surprise me anymore when it comes to my body issues. I would ice it and kept it evelatvated when I could. After two months of this I decided to go and have it x-rayed. Well to my disbelief, I was told I had a stress fracture just above the ankle. The orthopedic doctor talked to me about my rescent medical issues and when he heard that I had vasculitis on my lower legs, he said that could have casued the stress fracture.
Unbelievable, this disease has a mind of its own.
Thanks to my friend Terri, please see the attached article which releases to the above information:
Last year I developed swelling just above my ankle, and was told the swelling was all kinds of things. Finally, I went back to my GP and he did an MRI and found a bone bruise - which could lead to a stress fracture. He said it takes a pretty good hit and asked me what I did, and I can't think of a thing. I'm not sure what vasculitis is, I'll have to look it up? What are you doing for your ankle now? Still ice and elevation?
Doing okay Terri. Thanks for asking! With cam walker boot and the compression stocking, my swelling yesterday and today wasn’t so bad. I guess it is doing the job! I am limiting my weight on it for now so we shall see what happens!
I am in a cam walker boot with a compression stocking to help with the swelling, circulation and blood clots! No ice of heat because of the vasculitis. I am limited with weight bearing for right now. Yes it has to be elevated at all tImes. The boot and stocking must be on other then to shower or to sleep.
Here are a few links for you about the type of vasculitis that I have:
Above in my first post is an article Terri found for me about the stree fracture. Not sure you saw that.
I have pictures on my page of what the vasculitis looked like on my legs.

THANKS! I am new to site and am glad I saw your post. I just started walking a couple weeks ago (post ankle fusion surgery). It seems all of a sudden, something isn't quite right - new sharp pains.
Your post has prompted me to perhaps move up my next appt with ankle doc. I also have vasculitis and had NO IDEA it could affect a person in this way. I also have osteoporosis which increases risk for fractures.
So maybe I will stop ignoring it. After dealing with so much pain and different 'stuff', it gets easy to just try to shove something aside.
After explaining you have vasculitis which cannot be ignored besides having osteoporosis, get in to see your specialist as soon as possible..because Deenie as been bad with hers and it sounds like you need to see someone ASAP.
PLease don't put things aside to do with Lupus or vasculitis or any autoimmune disease connected to it because all issues are serious in their own way.
Deenie will be intouch more with your reply when she's on line.
Love Terri xxx

Dont shove it aside. Call your doctor and set an appointment. I will not let it go anymore.

Yes, I know that's the right thing to do. I am out of town until Sep 8, so will call tomorrow so I can see doc upon my return. At least I'm still on crutches - not full time walking - and have backed way off walking since the pain got worse. In fact, I might just stop all weight bearing till I see doc....
Regarding your vasculitis or any issues with Lupus none of we can afford to ignore issues because if they extend it leads to furthur issues or complications and the way your feeling with your ankle and also having osteoporosis which is serious on it's own...i'd definitely push forward to see your specialist.
I've been tested for vasculitis but it came back negative at the time..but i get it now where my toes feel broke or my ankles are giving way sometomes.
