Hello friends, I recently started having problems with my ears feeling plugged up with occasional pain. Then I noticed that my jaw was very sore and occasionally locked up on me. As I was doing some online research, I ran across TMJ. I strongly suspect that is what I am suffering with. I did see my GP and all they said was that my ear had forgotten how to work and I needed to retrain it. Oookkaayyy. In good faith, I did try to do their exercises but they didn't help. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this ear and jaw pain and if so, how did you find relief?
Thanks for any input and I wish for you all a pain free evening.
Hugs!
Yes. I had to wear a bite guard made by my dentist all day every day for weeks. Then just wore it to bed at overnight for quite some time. My pain went away. I wear it again at night when the pain creeps back up again.
I have to take muscle relaxers every night or I will have TMJ the next day. I take Flexirol daily and use a mouth guard. The Dr says you clinch down at night in pain.
Hi I have and sometimes do still have pain in my jaw area. Physical therapy helps a lot !!! I have not found physical therapy to work in other areas of my body but the jaw TMJ it worked wonders.
Hi, Elfin.
Have you had a chance to run your theory of TMJ by your doctor just yet? Just checking in…
Hugs,
Laurie
Thank you everyone for your input. I was finally in to see my dr and all he told me was to see my dentist. Which I kind of figured he would say. That will be my next step.
Hugs to you all!
Possible ear infection? Or sinus infection? I get the plugged up feeling sometimes with a cold. It usually goes away on its own but I did need to have a tube put in once. Very simple procedure that was tres helpful!
TMJ, I have that. I've rarely had the locking deal, and went away quickly. But I am forever breaking teeth from grinding at night (bruxism.) Your dentist can make you a special mouth guard to stop it from happening to you at night but they are several hundred dollars. Drug store sells something similar for about $20. You aren't to use it if you have sleep apnea.
If these things don't resolve, I think it might not be a bad idea to revisit your doctor and see if anything that I have mentioned might help you. Definitely try to politely steer him away from the untrained ear theory!
I hope this helps a bit!

Go to your dentist. I suffered a lot of ear pain. It was referral pain from my jaw. I was fitted with a bite guard to wear day and night for weeks. The pain lessened as my jaw muscles re-tightened. Eventually it went away.
