I have a question about how other Lupus patients feel after getting a massage. I have always enjoyed getting massages for their health benefits, but have noticed that my symptoms flare (especially bad headaches) after I get one. Then, after 5 hours or so, I feel better. Anyone have a similar experience?
A massage pushes all of the toxic stuff in our muscles into our bloodstream. I always drink lots of water (a quart) afterwards to flush this yuck out. My mom who has RA got a massage and didn’t drink enough water and ended up on the floor throwing up. So both before and after a massage drink lots of water. It really helps.
Yes make sure to drink the water before and after it really does help. Try different kinds of massage.
Yes. I have noticed this with similar procedures. Pedicures are very painful and difficult for me to get through the last year or so. And the massage chair is worse. I used to look forward to pedicures and even pay for some extra massage time but not anymore.
Thanks, guys…
I’ve been told to only get relaxation massages, not things like deep tissue. The deep tissue, for me at least, the doctors say only increases my issues. I beg for the deeper massage as my muscles are in a constant tense state, but it’s only going to make me flare up. Drinking water is so important too.
I do love deep tissue massages as well. Good to know I may need to avoid them. Thanks, Kelly.
No wonder what I thought was going to help me feel better only made me in pain more after the massage
I’ve noticed issues with deep tissue too, but I use a tens unit to help with pain and it works wonders. Also while deep tissue tends to make flares worse, hot stone massages have helped me alot
