Hi I really want to have a massage but I am not sure because I am so sensitive to touch so many areas the hurt with pressures applied. This is do to my fibro with Lupus. I don’t want to get there and they can’t really give me a good massage for the money. Has anyone has this problem and had a massage? Thanks for any responses
I have fibro and SLE as well, and have thought a massage would be fantastic. My husband sometimes rubs my forearms in the evening when they're hurting, but while he's well-meaning, he's no professional. I'll be following the advice here with interest!
Hi
I have fibro and lupus. I have about 2 massages a month at the chripractors office. It fills like she is killing me when she does it but I fill a lot better after words. Let me no if you try it and how it works for you.
Purplebutterfly, can I ask, how did you go about finding the right place for your massage? I don't know anyone local with lupus who can direct me, my rheum is useless with that kind of thing, and I don't know where to start. Did you just happen upon someone, or find them word of mouth, or? I'm nervous to just take a stab in the dark. I've done that with doctors and had very mixed results, as you can guess. I don't want to let someone touch me if they don't know what they're doing...
I found a place from groupon. They are not familiar with the pain associated with fibro and SLE. I have my husband massage my back and feet from time to time and I can’t handle it for long. I chickend out I have been having a lot of pain lately, not sure if I would ever try it.
Here is an idea…I went to a massage when I was in a flare. The therapist noticed when I was in pain. She asked me if she could jump around the body instead of doing a traditional massage. As soon as she felt me tensing she moved to a different area. I survived it much better and felt great after.
But I haven’t had another massage since. Just be comfortable to say no
Hello, and I know exactly what you mean! My suggestion would be to find someone in your area who is a certified massage therapist, who you can interview briefly by phone or email. If someone does therapeutic massage, they will know exactly how to handle you. There is an pro. association, like the American Medical Ass., that all the good ones are registered with. Can be found with a search engine. There is also a holistic healing directory.
If you are lucky, your doctor will make the referral, and if your insurance is great, they might even pick up the cost. Mine won't. I found someone who does this within three counties here, and she is so caring and understanding, well educated, and dedicated to helping people. Unable to afford sessions out of pocket.
Be careful who you go to. Maybe do a foot massage first, or even a pedicure at a good salon to see how well you can tolerate the handling? hugs and enjoy the benefits when you do find someone.
