WELL, I HAVE THE POWER OF ATTORNEY OVER MEDICAL DECISIONS. THEY SAY I HAVE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILTY ALSO.
THEY TOOK MY MOTHER TO THE BANK FOR HER SOCIAL SECURITY!!! "SHE SAID NO I AM NOT GIVING YOU MY MONEY". THAT IS WHEN THEY CALLED.
I TOLD THEM I HAVE BILLS COMING IN FROM JUNE FOR CARE GIVERS. THEY SAID THEY WILL GET THE ATTORNEYS TO LOOK AT THEM . THEY KNOW I LIVE ON SOCIAL SECURITY. I FOUND OUT ONE THING. THEY CAN NOT TAKE ANYTHING I OWN UP TO $50,000 IN FURNITURE OR CAR., MY CAR IS 2 YRS. OLD. BELIEVE WHEN I SAY I DO NOT USE IT. IT HAS 3,500 MILES ON IT.
I GO TO DOCTORS, COSTCO AND HOME BACK TO BED. SO, IF THEY COME AFTER ME, I HAVE TO STAY CALM OR I WILL HAVE A MAJOR FLARE UP.
I AM TRYING TO CONTROL MY EMOTIONS. OH DEAR GOD HELP ME. THEY KEEP BILLING ME $25,000 FOR 3 MONTHS OF HER STAY.
I AM IN DEEP BECAUSE I DID NOT KEEP ALL THE MONEY RECEIPTS FOR DEPENDS AND NITEGOWNS ETS.
I NEVER EXPECTED THIS PROBLEM.
WELL, ALL JUST PRAY!! THIS IS ANOTHER PROBLEM. THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMELS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU ALWAYS NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS
When my mother was in a nursing home She had to pay all of her social security except $60. She used that to pay her phone bill. She couldn't have any more than 1800 in the bank. So we went shopping for her a few months before she needed the nursing home. Bot clothes shoes etc and kept the receipts. You can't "hide" the moneybecause the bnursing home can find it and CAN take it.Power of attorney over medical decisions is not the same as controlling her money. My sister had power of attorney over my mothers mdical decisions which had nothing to do with money. If that were the case they would have gotten the money out of my sister shes "loaded" Check into it.
Agreed they can take her SS check but they cannot come after you to pay her bills. Yes they will keep sending you bills - you just don't pay them A friend of mine was in a NH and I got a bill for his stay every month for 1 1/2 years - I just ignored them They also tried to threaten by saying they were going to kick him out of the NH- WRONG They cannot discharge you if it is unsafe Contact an attorney- they will help you out
Some states have elder care advocacy that helps with all kinds of problems including nursing home situations and attorneys. It may take a lot of phone calls, which is exhausting, but maybe you can work at that gradually or the internet. Companies aka nursing homes have no qualms about doing these nasty things especially at this time of year. They prey on vulnerable times and people. Don't forget that attorneys are behind all this and made it so that anyone and everyone can sue over every little thing. Ordinary people like us are not equipped to deal with this meaness but talking here will give you a lot of opinions that might help you in some way. Best of luck. Gentle hugs, Reet
THE PROBLEM IS THIS NURSING DOES NOT TAKE THE MONEY OUT UNLESS MY MOTHER GOES TO THE BANK WITH THEM. SHE SAID NO YOU ARE NOT GETTING MY MONEY. SHE IS MENTALLY NOT WITH IT.
They didnt take the money out of her account. Her ss check went into her checking account and SHE wrote a check every month for her (she called it) her rent. That was in MA. If she has money she will have to pay.
A lawyer told my Mom before she retired to give all her money away so the state would take care of her. But you can't wait too long because you have to give it away for X number of years before you need a nursing home.
Unfortunately you must take over your mothers affairs and pay them with her money. That’s why they came to you not for you to pay them with your money but to govern hers. We had to do this with my granny and now my mom in law. Sad things is they have no idea they aren’t able to function alone. My heart goes out to you sweetheart! You must do what’s in her be at interest!
Very sorry that this is happening to you. I would consult a lawyer who deals with estates. When you are in the nursing home the state will take everything that your mother has for income and pay it to the nursing home. Then when her income has vanished the state will take over the cost of the care.
Michelle,
Calm down sweetie. They can’t take anything from you. I am POA for both of my parents that are in a nursing home. I am also their financial power of attorney. My mother’s bill got up to $47,000 due to their ignorance in getting her qualified for Medicaid. They tried to blame me but I live 500 miles away. So they decided to evict her since the bill had gotten up so high. So I had 30 days to find a nursing home that had room for a man and woman. They also live in a rural area. I had to drive up there to move them and sign all the papers
I had a major flare after that.
So what I’m saying is, they cannot come after you unless she is on Medicaid and you have to fill out a yearly report of her assets. Then the only time they question anything is if it is over $500. But it is a good idea to keep all receipts from now on.
Take care Hun.
THAT IS THE TRUTH IT WILL ALL BE GONE UNLESS EVERYTHING IS
TRANSFERRED AT LEAST 30 DAYS OLD OR MORE!!!
TRANSFER TITLE OF EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU PLACE HER IN A
HOME. I AM A JR. ATTORNEY AND THAT IS LEGAL AND IF YOU CAN
NOT WAIT!!! YOU LOSE IT ALL!!!
good luck ■■■■
