When you say your skin is getting "really mottled looking" does that mean when your out in the sun you start getting all these white spots all over your skin. Like lace kindave...and dose any one elses bones starts feeling like they are burning if they are out in the sun to long? I notice it worse when I am driving on my arms and I didn't use sunblock or have a cover up on them

I have been wondering about sunscreens too. I use Neutrogena that is SPF 110. It is not greasy feeling. The only problem is that it doesn’t seem to be working anymore. I have a horrible rash on my face, chest, neck and arms. Itches like crazy. I was told by my dermatologist not to use spray sunscreens and especially not on your face. I’m frustrated that I can’t seem to find relief.

Mari, try Aveeno they make one just for the face. I find it to be very good and non irritating.

I was wondering about that add well. I was diagnosed with uctd last year along with Sjogrens and Raynauds. The Rheumy did say it " could be a mild case of Lupus" but doesn’t want to say it officially yet. I also have fibromyalgia. I started taking a water aerobics class a couple weeks ago to be able to get some exercise and not get so hot. I don’t tolerate heat at all. The first few days I didn’t even think about sunscreen and I broke out in dark spots on my face and arms and burned really fast. I’m now using sunscreen but just hope I’m not doing more damage than good since it has helped with my energy level and joints.

Titanium dioxide for face. Best for me since I react to lotions

Mari,

I get a red itchy rash from the sun. The neutrogena pure and free baby sunscreen I mentioned earlier in the thread seems to help prevent it. The sunscreens in it are natural mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide), which the dermatologist recommended. The clinique one I use on my face is a combination of mineral and chemical sunscreens. The regular clinique city block is only mineral, but it only has spf 25 so I use the super city block which has the combination to get higher SPF of 40 (plus the tint of the super works better with my skin tone than the tint of the regular city block) -- it seems to work and doesn't make me break out.

When I do get the rash, regular cortisone cream doesn't work to relieve the itching. But the dermatologist gave me a prescription cream that does -- you might ask the dermatologist for a prescription steroid cream for the rash.

Hi, as for sunscreen, I recommend Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen, Broad Spectrum SPF 100+; works very well to me; as for the clothes, I bought some Coolibar Sun protection clothes, it is a bit of pricey, but it is recommended by Daniel J. Wallace, MD in his The Lupus Book.

Take care Kelly.
