A New Sunscreen Out!

I was at the dermatologist today and there is a new sunscreen out called Elta MD 47 for the face and body! Finally someone with a brain! A little on the pricy side ($22.00) but it is for people like me that can’t be in the sun because of the cutaneous lupus and melanoma. It is water resistant for 80 minutes, fragrance free, oil free, paraben free, sensitivity free and noncomedogenic! Its chemically free and contains transparent zinc oxide. Ya hoo! I am so excited to try it! Some fun in the shady side of the sun! Lol!

It goes on wet or dry and rubs in quickly. The question is, does it put white all over my clothing, car seats and furniture? Will I feel like I have on “petroleum jelly” and affairs to go down a waterside! LOL!

To be continued…I will post later what I think about it once I get a chance to use it!

Hi Deenie,

I had this mentioned to me earlier today not the name as you've stated but the ingredients, well for the money lets just hope it's worth it and like you've stated clothes etc don't get stained.lol

Deenie i'm adding a pic of it and also a link of the amount you stated, some are charging £29.00 )

Deenie, PLEASE post back how this works out for you. I break out from everything on the market, even the ones for babies. on meds that increase already existing photosensitivity, grrrrr. Do you have to get it from a liscenced dermatologist, or can it be ordered directly? What's the SPF on it? Sorry so many questions, but I could really use this! (if it's clear, I'm thinking it shouldn't stain anything white like the traditional zinc oxide creams. Love zinc oxide anyhow, great for treating skin rashes that I have to battle at times. ) hugs!

You can buy it off the Internet. It is clear. I too have so may allergies with chemicals and products. I also have the chronic lupus rash. So my fingers are crossed I will post an up date soon.

Sorry to be off topic, but was just diagnosed with cutaneous lupus and already know how much it hurts, but do you get extreme fatigue after any sun encounter , or any of the other symptoms of lupus ad well? Thanks and great news about the sun screen!

I know what you are saying Ann. I have a pool in my backyard and can’t use it!

Fingers crossed!

Yes I get extremely fatigued after sun exposure and a bad tumid rash. I have joint swelling and pain. Stomach issues all the time and vasculitis. Kidney issues from time to time such as blood and protein. Thank God so far no function issues. I have no immune system and vision and eye issues with headaches. Temperature issues, I don’t do well in heat or cool with my hands and feet. I have photosensitive and sensitivity to chemicals/lotions/rx drugs that go on my skin or into my body! A lot of allergies.

What type of cutaneous lupus did they dx you with?

Thank you Ann a. I have a lot of in inflammation in my intestines, stomach, Not to mention my immune system has been bad since I was a kid. When Dr told me what I had she acted like I won the lupus sweepstakes, took a second biopsy and told me to come back whenever. She would call me when results came back. A week ago they were back but the nurse said the Dr had not had time to look them over and call me yet. Can anyone see a new Dr in my future? Thanks for info and listening to my rant.

Okay day one! It applies nicely and dries quickly. I wear black clothing with two different outfits and no transfer was seen on my car seat clothing or furniture. I am not sold yet because I did not go out in the direct sun light. It rained for most of the day. To be continued…,

Yay deenie! no show through orrub off. will be waiting to hear results with sun exposure. even enough to walk the dogs makes me feel rotten. You may well have something new and wonderful with you now!

Thank-you Ann for the info.

Dear tacteach

Sun exposure can not only cause pain and fatigue in those with cutaneous lupus it can cause inflammation in internal organs of those with SLE - without every causing any kind of rash. And of course, while this video only mentions lungs and kidneys, this inflammation can occur in any organ or system of the body. The line between the symptoms of cutaneous lupus and systemic lupus are not as hard and firm as some people think. The Sun is an Enemy to us all.

I have no update sorry! I have been out of commission for two weeks. I ended up in the hospital for two days with diverticulitis and then home in bed for the remaining time on antibiotics. On top of everything else I got a summer cold that is kicking my butt. When it rains it pours! Then it has been so ridiculously hot here you don’t want to be out side because you could cut the humidity with a knife! Therefore I have had no time in the sun! I will let you know how it works once I am feeling better…
