I went to a due to pain down my left hip down to my foot with a lot of burning and also some achy feeling plus sometimes I had when I stood I would have the shakes he told me that I was having problems with my nerves sciatic nerve and that if I would have back surgery that it would make it feel better after surgery I felt better but now the pain has come back and now I’m frustrated and not sure which way to go if it’s not the lupus it’s arthritis everything else is just depressing to know that a vibrant person like me a year or two ago is not able to move around and do things like how you I used to be able to walk, play with grandkids and have fun.
If the pain runs down the side of your leg rather than the back it could be your SI joint. If you have trouble rolling over in bed (sends pain through your hip and the outside of the thigh) that is classic SI pain. The sacroilliac joint barely moves but it can cause serious pain. Mine has been inflamed for over 3 weeks and I’m exhausted. I get sciatica from bad discs as well and the pain is definitely different. You might also be developing arthritis in your spine. I hate to tell you this but your doctor was incorrect in telling you surgery would take all the pain away. My father is an orthopedist specializing in backs and he always tells his patients that they will get some relief from surgery but it depends on them. If you do the physical therapy exercises and you heal well then you get more pain relief. The exercises have to be done for quite a while, possibly the rest of your life, to maintain the supporting muscles. Oh, and maintaining a healthy weight is vital. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your doc wasn’t completely honest with you. My dad would give him an earful as he can’t stand it when surgeons fudge the truth to make money. I hope you feel better soon.
You need to go back to your doctor- there are other treatments in addition to the surgery such as injections, Medrol dose pak etc.
Doctors dont know everything get a second opinion, never be tired of doing right we all are stricken with the change in a lifestyle I too had to change my priorities and learn not to over extend myself learn to rest properly and when I had energy I made use of it but with good sense not to over extend myself. As much as you want to do more you half to take
your time and pace yourself I do and over a period of time you will learn to and it will work out it has for me We arre all walking in the shoes of lupus just wearing a different pair some wearing the same pair because of the same symptoms and other shoes cause of different symptoms but at the end of the walk we have in common the pain the discomfort the loneliness from not being able to participate in every festivities or the constant doctor visits and the financial mess this disease brings, but in the end we have God and each other and if you have one person be it a family or friend you have something priceless you have a angel.
Thanks for the replays I have written severL comments and never got a reply. People don’t understand that we are on pain and think we are lazy and just don’t want to work, I have been a nurse for 30 years and I rather work than wait on a check each month, don’t get me wrong I’m glad to get Disabity but I rather work, but I just can’t do it no more because of all the problems with back and arthritis and fib and problem with nerve damage, and disc being messed up. But I’m glad to have someone that knows what inn talking about. I’ve had about 4-5 injection and he says if those didn’t help that no more surgery.
Hello!, remember one thing, “You are not a lone!”. We are here for the very same reason, suffering with Lupus(even though it maybe in different way’s-smile! But we can stay strong and fight to find the cure and try our BEST to Live ! Hold on and don’t give up!!!..Beverly L.
