I am almost a month into this thing called lupus. on 3 different kinds of pills, I was wondering does anyone else have problems with there feet, when I say this I will describe what I have, my skin does not fall off like most peoples and what I mean by that is your skin falls off during your sleep or during the day, mine does not it pills off the new skin grows under the old and the old starts to inch I scratch and it pills off like a snake sheds its skin. But the real problem is my skin on my feet splits on my heals, on the side of my feet and just opens up, so it is very painful to walk, my doctor told me that it was from psyrisus, the skin disorder. he laughed at me when I told him my husband in an afford to to walk without pain, we buy super glue, because when you get it on your skin, it glues your skin and it is hard to get off, and glue the cut together some times these cuts are more than 2 inches in length. anyone else have this problem? or perhaps it is a condition with my Raymans disease anyone know?
I dont know what the cause of this is but I have a very similar problem. The skin on my elbows, knees & top of my feet just peels off. I don't have to scratch at it, just merely rubbing and open hand on them will make my skin peel off. Then the area becomes very sore & raw. Also the skin on the bottom of both my big toes split open. I know what you mean about it being painful to walk. I kinda like the super glue idea, I just might try it. Currently Im going through tons of Curel anti-itch lotion, it helps some.
My husband thought of the super glue has to be gel because when you go to the er or the hospital and get surgery they use something like that to sew you back up. the super glue is the only thing that I have found that helps, I have tried socking my feet in Epson salt, wearing shoes all the time, lotion, Vaseline and socks all night. my doctor gave me some lotion from the rx to try and fix the issue, with nothing helping by the way I am 39 and I have had this problem all my life.
this is the same physician that told me to walk to loose the weight that I was getting before I was diagnosed with lupus he told me that I just needed to exercise and all would be better he called today to get blood work, and I go see them next week, why my father asked to tell you that yes you have lupus something 3 other doctors have told you, and he should have caught it some 10 years ago.
In some cases, cracking, blistering and swelling accompanies flares. Consider super glue to seal deep fissures. If you suspect you might have a super glue allergy, do a little patch test on your bicep first, said Cynthia Tricket, a physician's assistant for Texas Dermatology Associates.
Oh my stars! I'm so glad you shared this. My Mom also has lupus and this is EXACTLY what she is dealing with! Mom doesn't have Raynaud's disease (I think that's what you meant) or did you mean something else? The Dr. said it might be psoriatic arthritis. Mom has found some success with HeelTastic and prescription cream clobetasol. It did 100 times better than just cortisone cream. I will be showing this to MOm. She feels like such an alien and no Dr. could figure out what it is so they just blame everything on lupus that they don't know what else it is. I'm so sorry you're going through this. She is a bit OCD so she is constantly peeling and cutting at her feet to get the thick dead skin off, because when she steps on that dead skin it's like feeling something sharp in a shoe. I swear she spends 12-18 hours picking and cutting with toenail scissors. It's much better when she uses the medicine. Sometimes she needs a small dosage of prednisone for a short time, and she says her feet are hot, like they are being cooked from the inside out. Are yours hot?
So sorry you're dealing with this but so grateful there is someone else that can make Mom not feel alone! Sheila
yes that is what I meant. yes my feet are hot always, and I am always pulling or using a nail file or twisters or plainly anything to get rid of the itching, burning that goes on.yes I have tried all of those creams and lotions as well, nothing helps. the skin in between my toes bothers me the most I know its there and it itches and I will scratch till it starts to blood then the itching is gone. that is why I asked others there has to be more people out there that has the problem I am just putting two and two together. hope it helps
Super or Crazy Glue is great for closing minor cuts, but I've never heard of using it for cracked or split heels. My entire family has this issue, but I'm the only one with an autoimmune disease. When mine get really bad, I slather on a heavy application of a foot cream, before bed, and sleep in socks. In the morning, I massage any remaining cream into my feet. This will help with the sloughing of dead skin. Then I shower and go through my usual morning "beautification" ritual. After about a week, I can start to see and feel a difference. It's also important not to wear open-heeled shoes when your feet are cracking. The lack of heel support, as well as the exposure to dry air, will only make it worse and negates any heel healing (sorry...couldn't resist!) that you may have accomplished. You might also talk to your doctor about a good anti-fungal treatment for the issue of your toes, and be sure to carefully, but thoroughly, dry them (especially in between and under them) after bathing/showering. Good luck!
It actually sounds a bit like athletes foot… My dad gets it and his skin does that on his feet it’s a fungal infection (remember we are more prone to catching infection) just a thought try some athlete foot cream and see if that helps… Can’t hurt trying it out I’m surprised no one else thought of it
No one else thought of it because this has NO resemblance to athletes foot. DEEP pieces of skin peel off just like a snake, and there's no itch. But bad nerve pain and raw skin pain and burning. Chelle's problem sounds just like my mother's, and a Dr said it is nothing like athlete's foot. It actually would hurt a lot to use the athlete's foot medicine on raw skin. But thanks for trying to think of an answer. Very kind of you.
Absolutely! Always clean the wound well and treat with an antiseptic and/or antibacterial product. Another reason I only use it on minor cuts.

Sheila... I agree with your comment, as far as the heel and foot cracks. But I agree with Cayleigh with regard to the toe issue. I suggested, in my original comment, talking to her doctor about an anti-fungal treatment for the issue with her toes. The description chelle gave, regarding her toes, sounds very much like Athlete's Foot or possibly some other type of fungal infection. I wouldn't suggest chelle using an AF treatment, on her own, because you are correct in that it could be more painful and lead to further complications. But I really do think that she should broach the subject with her doctor.
Chelle... I certainly sympathize with you. Our feet are, literally, our foundation. Foot health is so important. We often take for granted the little things like walking to the fridge or walking to the car. We never much think about our feet (or many of our other extremities and senses) until they are injured or incapacitated. I wish you all the luck in the world, my friend, and hope you find relief soon!

I re-read the original post, and I guess I forgot the part that she has already been to the Dr. and has already been diagnosed with psoriasis, which is also what they told my Mom, so she has been to a Dr. about it. Mom's is psoriatic arthritis. Psoriasis and arthritis. I hope Cayleigh doesn't get that bad.
so perhaps I should have given alittle back ground about my feet as well, I have had 2 bunions, one was fix now 15 years ago with a rod going through my big toe and down the back of my foot,i am double-jointed as well so I heal really fast too, so when they cut the double jointed out of my toes it came right back. I have been to 4 different foot doctors, all giving me pills, for this skin shedding whatever, I have 3 different kinds of lotions, ive tried the athletes creams ive tried socking my feet in the apple vinger bath ive tried heating pains, ice packs, changing my shoes more, changing my shoes all together, going with just sandal, going with tennis shoes, ive tried the tar stuff. maybe a picture is worthy here to let you see the real foot. perhaps tomorrow.
