Skin and hair care helps?

certainly in a flare, you all know the drill.

rest, eat well, stay away from known triggers. for me, this means living in a sterile buble, lol.

hair fallout from this flare beginning is slowing up. I can gently brush my hair without filling an entire trash can. blessed with thick hair, doesn't show. skin looks like the "pregnancy mask" some women get when pregnant that is a bit of hyper pigmentation, plus another kind of body rash caused by external candida (it comes and goes). NO am not pregnant.

I am reacting to even the most gentle body care products, including tried and true homemade organic ones. Sometimes, I wish to get a bit cleaner than plain water! Does anyone have body and hair care they are able to use when hyper sensitive? Please share. anything made from lard, or containing chemical additives, chamomile, aloe are always a no no for me due to allergy.

I can smell the chemicals in our tap water, have to run it about 5 minutes to get it better, but if you run a tub, still can see an off tint to it.

live in the hot humid south. drawing flies not a good sign. help!

hugs, morgan

Try goats milk soap for bathing Also for hair loss I cut my hair very short to decrease the stress on the hair and use baby shampoo

I too cut my once think long hair very short and use sulfate free shampoo, and deep condition once a month. My face has pigment changes, I have not found anything to change that. I use oil of Olay cleanser and no makeup, this helped with the skin feeling smooth and blimish free. I am going to see a dermatologist because the pigmentation change is on my back and upper arms as well.

You may need to invest in household water filtration. At the very least for the shower/tub. I shower… I don’t soak in a tub often. I only do so for achy muscles or a cold. My thought is, anything irritating your skin is both being spread in a tub and you’re more likely to absorb things you’re soaking in. Just a thought.
I too have switched to sulfate-free shampoo & conditioner. That’s the first thing that has made a big difference that I could tell. I use L’oreal’s product, EverStrong.

Candida you should be able to treat with plain yogurt, by the way.

I also have hyperpigmentation along my jaw. I use sunblock, and I use cover makeup. There are products that help even tone, but you would probably react to them.

I use pure olive oil for my moisturizer. It soaks in the skin, doesn't leave an oil and have never reacted badly to it.

I live in south florida and I was using dove sensitive soap and dove shampoo because that is what the Dermatologist told me to use. I changed the soap about a year ago to using Johnson’s moisture care baby wash and that has worked better for me with the skin! I am still using the dove shampoo! I too cut my hair short. I also use Johnson’s baby lotion to moisture my skin every day too!

Prior to being Diagnosed with lupus I was always told by my doctors that I needed to live in a glass bubble house! I have no Immune system and seem to catch everything! I am also Allergic to a lot of things! I have now summed that up to having an Autoimmune issue called lupus!

I hope this helps you…Deenie

My dermatologist also recommended using Dove sensitive skin soap on my face, which does work for me. I use a generic baby wash below the waist because it’s “weaker” than name brand. Not as soapy and less fragrant. I don’t like completely unscented products. A handheld shower head is best, so you can be sure all soap is completely rinsed off in hard to reach places. For the rest of my body I use a body wash with tea tree oil in it. For my hair I don’t use any leave in styling products because they make my face break out. Same with makeup and facial moisturizers. Can’t use these products. I avoid putting lotion on my neck and chest, too because I’ll break out. I use lotion on the rest of me, St. Ives lotion.

With lupus causing sensitivities for most of us it’s good to really pay attention to our bodies and where we are affected, what products affect us in a negative way and avoid or make adjustments as necessary. Such a juggling act, but we don’t have a choice.

If you are looking for a commercial product, you might try Arbonne. All their products contain only natural ingredients and are vegan certified, so no animal products. They are expensive but very gentle. You can find a consultant through www.arbonne.com. Their customer service is great and so is their return policy.

Ok ladies, I really hate to break it to you but baby soap and shampoo contain formaldehyde. Obviously this isn’t the best thing. I use Dove. It really helps. Try glycerine soap if you can. Bath and Body Works or stores similar, sell it. Also, find an all natural store. I would definately try the goats milk, as mentioned earlier in a reply. As far as hair loss, the only issues I have ever had with it was from Prednisone or another medicine I took in the past. I found a wonderful shampoo and conditioner at Sally’s Beauty Supply. When I get home I’ll reply the name. For something all natural or less harmful, try the great avacado and olive oil. Even, I know it is weird but mayonaise, which is egg and oil, or downy fabric softener. I will look for more home remedies and talk to the sales rep at the local health store to see what else I can come up with. The shampoo I use is gentle and makes my hair feel and look wonderful. I also use the leave in and stuff of the same brand. I will ger back to you asap.

what about pure castille soap?

I really like the Raw Shea Butter shampoo/conditioner set from the brand Shea Moisture, which is pretty cheap and carried at Walgreens (on the West Coast at least.) It is sulfate & paraben free, but might have other ingredients that bother you. I have fairly sensitive skin but not to the extent you ate describing! I also have a really great non-irritating sunscreen, which it sounds like you’ll need in the South and especially in a flare (though I hope you’re able to stay home while you recover, but to prevent the next one…) The sunscreen is by DeVita, I have both the face and body “solar protective moisturizer”, SPF 30, which is the mildest I’ve used AND non-greasy AND totally clear (even though it’s all Zinc oxide and no chemical sunscreen.) A great mild and very moisturizing face lotion (but pricey) is Aveda’s All Sensitive. They used to have a very mild facial cleanser in that line as well, not sure they’re still making it though.

Best of luck, and it sounds like you are getting some great advice from the others who have had extreme sensitivity!

Kara pro is the name of the shampoo and conditioner, by Naturelle. It is a little pricey but you dont need much. I also use the intense treatment and the restorative anti frizz elixer, which is great for skin as well. There is a brand called medline remedy. It is awesome. Look into other replies and suggestions as well. Sometimes it takes a while to find what is right for you but.your body will love you once you do. Something my aunts had to do for sensitive skin issues was soak in a bath with drift, the baby laundry soap. Or I will look, I have a book that tells you how to make soap, lip balm,.and bath salts. I’ll find it and see what helps.

Hi

use mane and tail shampoo, yes it is for animals. but since i have been using it my hair is MUCH thicker -it isn't filling in my small bald spots but my hair is so much thicker you can't see the bald spots. I use only oil of olay body wash. I also have lichen planus and my skin is very sensative.

Keep your chin up!!!

My dad uses some type of powdered product that cleans the oil and dirt. I’ll find out tomorrow what it is. Best of wishes.

just a thought --you can get a brita water pitcher or PUR water pitcher or faucet attachment

I am partial on a certain homemade soap my Aunt makes. www.edgewatercottage.com All of her soaps are amazing! I only use her soap. My skin does not feel dry and they seem to help with the itching.

i am so sorry to hear about the allergen issues with all the soaps. i thought i was doing good with DOVE until my sisster introduced me to Oil of Olay and its heaven on my skin.

But as far as natural. There is this lady that makes soap with ALL organic products. i love the chapstick/lip care. it feels so good on my lips, i cant imagine how good her soaps are.
