Hair Dye Question

Has anyone tried Palette by Nature all natural hair dye.

I used to dye my hair all the time but since my head started getting sores in it do to Discoid Lupus when I dyed it last it hurt, and burned me... Curious to see if anyone else had any experience with this?

My Mom has been telling me how bad my hair looks and I now don't want to leave the house without trying to put some color in it. I went gray early so I guess it doesn't look the best but I have learned to like it..... Now that I know it looks bad need to do something.

Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to cover the nasty lesions that are on the face? Yeah, Mom said they look really bad too!

I know full of compliments!! How dare she say how are feeling.......

Thanks

Anissa

Anissa, sometimes we have to take a break from things that make us feel worse, like hair color. I haven't tried the one you mentioned but perhaps someone else has? My haircolor is my one remaining vestige of vanity. I look 30 years older without it! A few solutions could be wearing a natural fiber hat or pretty head scarf, the bonus being you get more sun protection if the brim is wide enough for you. I picked a couple of them up when on sale from the change of seasons. I hope someone comes along soon who can help.

Now, speaking as a mom, I know too well how hard it can be to see your own child looking unwell, and accepting their circumstances. That may be what your mom is dealing with and vocalizing. She probably is struggling right along with you. Maybe a calm and loving sit down chat over a cup of tea or lunch at a favorite spot would be helpful?

Warm hugs, Louise

That's a really good idea, didn't think of that one, could work. If your mom is willing. Snowwolf

Instead of coloring your hair had you thought about doing a frost or a reverse frost?. The chemicals don't touch your skin because you have to wear a cap and pull the strands through so it would solve that issue and make to sores less noticable. Nice Mom, real supportive of you, not. Sorry, just find that inappropriate, she needs to go through what you are going through and feel how it feels especially with the comments. Sorry she treats you that way, when mine was alive she was even worse than that so I can sympathize with you on that count.

The lesions on your face, have you talked with your doctor about them, sometimes prednisone helps or you could try an over the counter hydrocortisone cream to see if that settles them down a little. Just a thought. Hope that helps a little, wish you had more supportive people around you though, makes a world of difference. Good luck and hope you get to feeling better soon. Snowwolf

I’m a hairstylists/colorist for 14 years. …In my professional opinion I would suggest any type of foiling technique in order to keep color/bleach off the scalp but if you’re very gray and used to getting a base color you’ll not have the coverage you’re used to …Every great stylist knows a proper consultation can’t be given without seeing the client in person. .If you already go to someone you love and trust don’t be afraid or shy about sharing concerns and concepts. If you don’t then try looking up reviews for salons and stylist in your area. Our goal is to make you feel great about yourself, when you look good you at least feel a little better:)

Anissa,

I had to change my selection when it comes to hair color since most have such toxic ingredients in them. I've been doing well with Essencity hair color.....it has much less toxin, no odor at all to speak of...no longer do I have to gag while I'm applying color to my hair, or get damaged hair and scalp.

I've had to change shampoos too. I've done well with Savonnerie products, gluten free soap(I like the castile) and their gluten free shampoo and gluten free conditioner. I have long hair and it tends to frizz but this combo does not irritate my scalp and leaves it smooth and clean. No perfumy odor to irritate me.

I just did a search for natural hair color and bunch come up. Even Clairol had a product!! I can say this..henna based ones are not very good. They can bring orange look to your hair. I do a test area first no matter what anyone says.

I also know that isabella had a product that covered scars etc without pancake look. It was excellent for butterfly rash without irritating my skin and it was very sensitive. One jar lasted me long time. I am 99% i got it from them...i do not have it right now. So sorry i cannot give you the name...you can call and they might know. i do know that owners and i think workers try all products...they use to let employees try some. Also has excellent books etc!! IF you have children at home...their kids book catalog is excellent!...chinaberry! if nothing else reviews help about library books to get!!

Also i think you might speak to your dermatologist about both problems. They might know excellent natural hair colorist in your area. As to your face, they often have products in their offices, even best free samples!!

I also included Lupus foundation. They also have helped with face products but local support group again might be able to help with hair issue.

I was told that plaquneil can cause early graying so wonder if others who used it for over 10 years are graying too?

Aveda products are excellent! they have hair salons and do color...all natural but i still do a test patch. Now if they are a spa i noticed the price goes up a lot rather than if just a hair place. If it is too pricey you might also ask them if they know of other natural hair colorist. Framasei is another excellent hair color...best i think and they have natural one...just very hard to find stylist who use it. Not sure if i spelled it correctly but close enough.

http://www.isabellacatalog.com/ if you call them ...they do actually try all the products especially sensitive ones for skin. I have not asked them in long time if even people who answer phones try products but they use too.

http://www.lupus.org/ here is lupus foundation site...they should be able to help you with both problems.

http://www.aveda.com if you go to their site...you can find a salon in your area. I have used them and been very happy.

I sincerely hope you do find a product for both!! i love to hear about which you do find that works and how we can get it. Right now my hair person is doing just okay job! i love to find a better product and hair person!!

Oh i am avid hat person!! But i still want the hair done...until it is all grey than i might go all grey or have them do some highlights in it ...some younger people look excellent in grey!! Oh for wide brim winter hats...those can be hard to find..Vermont Country store...again another catalog!! has few excellent wide brim hats under $40!

http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/store/ let us know how it goes!!

Anissa...I am so sorry that your own Mom has no sympathy to your problem. I have had lesion problems on my scalp for many years (over 40 years) I still have some lesions but most are scar tissue and no hair grows...I found that a nice hair piece worked for me for a while but now with the gray it is harder....I found using a fill-in product fills in the bald spots and also covers the gray hair. This product I got at my CVS pharmacy It is just called fill-in powder with procapil and it is great for me...this comes with a brush and all you do is brush it in your hair and it covers grey and fills in the bald spots with no irritation, it will not rub off until you wash your hair...so I don't wash my hair everyday. If you are all gray it would not work but I like it. I had a lot of lupus lesions on my face and cortisone creams really got rid of it. I am going to ask if you smoke cigarettes and if you do...QUIT and your skin will be so much better. I use Mayballine super stay make-up and it covers the redness.
Wear a hat like a cap always so the sun does not make it worse, Good luck Zuppie

I never hear anyone talk about the nasty leasions on the face - just got diagnosed with discoid-other dermatologists just blamed me for picking on my face-hello feel like a crack face as it is thank you-

I get them and they are ugly!! Mine go through different stages as I constantly think of how to clean my face, dry, or moisten it, take of the thickness it is like the thickness runs so deep and tries to scab over scab but doesn't stop so I have to moisten it and try and take some off or it puffs up. -oh its just frustrating and ugly. I clean then it puffs up then I clean it out then it gets smaller but this goes on forever!! It goes away or moves to another area, oh Im not happy- used to have a really clear complexion no pores now total opposite-sucks!!

Waiting for plaqinil but using " Mupirocin ointment" (wrong spelling on both I Know) it drys so I I put lite clean and clear moisturizer and take of the dry skin-it doesn't solve the problem but it does something better than nothing. for now-waiting for help-oh no help for lupus problems forgot!!!

Thank you all for your suggestions I have spoken to my stylist and she believes that the new product that she is

now using may not bother me. Keep your fingers cross that it works.

As far as my face I do use steroid cream and I take Plaquenil (wrong spelling) and Cellcept. In speaking to Rheumy she states that if we can any more coming then we are doing great. However she doesn't think that the ones i have will ever go away. She said if they do great!

As far as my Mom I'm not sure exactly how she thinks! I have a lot of health problems and I am now looking at not 1 surgery but 2. I am just tired of her saying take 2 Advil and you will feel better...... Just me who lives with a chronic headache daily since 2006. If Advil worked I world own the company. LOL :)

Thank you all for your prayers and help.
