Reposting of DoBadd's Intro, My Story

My Story
Posted by DoBadd on October 13, 2015 at 7:48pm

So I’m new to lupus even though I’ve had the symptoms my whole life. When I was a preteen I was tested for it because none of the dermatologist I’ve been to could figure out why my skin was always breaking out. The results came back negative and so I continued to live my life with these scars all over my body. For the next 5-6 years I lived like this as the disease slowly started to manifest. I began noticing small but weird changes in my body like the Raynaud’s syndrome, (which I didn’t know was a symptom at the time), feeling slightly tired at times, depression, and muscle aches. I thought it was all because of the stress of college and just living life. I finally found my answer after one day at a water park spending the entire day in the sun and the rest of the week feeling like crap that something was wrong. I couldn’t sleep because of the pain i had when I took a breath. (pleurisy).I researched my symptoms as I always do when i’m sick and found out I probably had lupus. I went to a rheumatologist to confirm what I already knew… At first I felt fine, but as the months go on it seems like it’s getting worse. I’m relieved after 13 years of not knowing what is wrong with my skin that I have answers, but it wasn’t quite the answer I was searching for.

Hi, DoBadd. Welcome. It must certainly be a relief you found answers. 13 years is a long time without diagnosis. You are a strong person…Thank you for sharing your story. Please be sure to check in again with your Rheumy to let them know you feel you are getting worse. There may need to be a reevaluation of your medications.
Best wishes,
Laurie
