Poor memory recall

Yesterday I had a scary episode where I forgot important information that is otherwise easy for me to recall. This has been happening frequently and it is more than bothersome at this point. It is worse when it is hot and humid, I can feel pressure at the base of my skull and a foggy feeling takes over my brain. Hopefully now that summer is at an end, the cooler weather will bring some relief. Anybody else feel this way?

Hey, I certainly have been having brain issues---and summer is always worse for me. It seems that Lupus loves to inflame my brain.

Just recently I started having T.I.A.s and the doc discovered that they were happening bc my adrenal gland stopped working. She increased steroids and added another hormone. I am actually starting to feel more clear headed.

Have you seen a neurologist?

I have seen a neurologist last year, he is the one who directed me to rheumatology d/t me turning up ANA +. I saw him because the brain and neurological symptoms were so bad that it did feel like a precursor to a stroke. I will speak to my rheumatologist and seek another neurological opinion. Thanks for the input.

today i am foggy again...migraine-eye too and dizzy spells. Having trouble talking as well. but it is enlightening bc this is how i used to feel 90% of the time before getting the treatment for Addison's disease.

I don't like it. now i have a normal to compare it to...before i just felt foggy and weird all the time. clarity is def something i want more of.

cool pic of you and baby. :)

I have no short term memory, and a couple of years ago, that is what one of my Drs told me was a Lupus symptom. I don’t have any remedy for this problem yet. I am still looking for answers to it myself.

My short term memory loss is horrible. Lost my job partly because of it. My husband is going nuts, it causes a lot of fights when I forget to do something important. At first he was more unforgiving but now I think he is realizing that I’m not doing it on purpose and I am seriously suffering from it. Still waiting test results…

Do they have a test for poor memory? I would like to get one, if so. Anyway, I KNOW I can’t remember stuff. I also have problems with forgetting very important things, and my husband gets very irate with me about it. I had to give up my job because the new BOD decided they had to have someone who could keep precise hours working there, even though I am much more qualified (full charge bookkeeper) than the girl who is currently there. Not fair, but certainly is reality.

Yes, there are tests they can do for memory loss. It's the same assesments they use for Alztimers. (sp?) Sorry can't remember how to spell much these days :(

Thank you for all these comments, I did not know any test was available for this, (I am going to look for a new rheumatologist) This memory problem and fogginess is more than troublesome to all of us and those that we love, especially if we are the head of the house or the primary bread winners. This site is so important to support one another, once again, thank you.

Yes it is! You’re Welcome! Hang in there

James,

I didn't want to admit it, but I will. I'm finding myself forgetting

the little things alot more. Like.. Where's my keys, where did I park.

I was just diagnose with Lupus not long ago. Is this part it?

Unfortunately, this is a symptom of Lupus. Some of the medication helps a little bit, but not much. What I do is write notes to myself, slow down and think before I do something. It is not easy, but this discussion board is a big help. If you ever get scared, or upset with yourself, just remember you have alot of friends going through this with you, simply post a discussion and someone will reply. Stay positive.

My husband is always telling me to take notes. Great idea-if I could remember that I took them in the first place. LOL!

You are right, nothing about this is easy. I am starting to get in touch with several of the people here, and it is very nice to see how many have responded to my posts. No one else understands this thing called Lupus, and it is nice to have someone out there who really, truly, does.

Fortunately, well before I found out I have Lupus, I had gotten into some very good habits regarding the stuff I use all the time, my cell phone, hats, etc. I have places where I put them, and try really hard to always put things back. Not easy when my husband is the opposite of organized, and never puts anything back. Then, I can never remember if he took the screwdriver and lost it, or if I did? <VBG>

If you work at it very hard, maybe you can get into habits of organization that can help you out. Long term memory isn't as much of a problem, so eventually your habits will go long term, and you can kind of guide yourself with that.

Hey James, I can definitely relate to what u are going through. Janice have had this discussion before as well. I get that way and they just did a neurophycho analysis, I will get the results on the 13th and I will be glad to share the results with everyone. I know that you can get what is caused Lupus Fog, but my memory is so bad sometimes I have forgotten my own address and I have lived here for almost 8 years now. SCARY HUH!!

My memory is horrible! It used to be fabulous… but not anymore. I find myself doing stupid things all the time (loading dirty dishes into the fridge, folding the basket of dirty clothes, ect.). I find I have to really focus on the task I’m doing or who knows what I’ll do! It’s a very frustrating problem! I have to enter all appointments and “to do” lists into my iPhone or I will completely forget. Nothing like running to the store and forgetting why you went!

I started noticing it takes me longer to recall certain words or ideas, when I am moving fast or thinking of multiple things at once. So, to accommodate my life, at work, I start to write down, what i need to cover (I am a teacher) and take it slower then normal. It works.. All over my desk are post it notes with messages (conference with this student etc) It is working for me. Slowing down has an effect on my daughter, she wants to rip and run like we use to, but when I can't I don't push myself, I just don't. She is understanding, but I make sure we do something cool when I feel better or make her favorite dinner and rent a movie.

Recently, my head has felt weird, almost a tingling sensation accompanied by blurry vision. I have to make an appointment with the ophthalmologist anyway stated by my doctor.

what were we talkin about? jk

OK, you are funny. LOL!

I have been known to start putting things in the fridge that belong in other places. Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger. I have to really concentrate in order to get anything done. I forget why I went to a room to get something all the time. Ah, that is why we are here, though, isn’t it? To talk and laugh about stuff that would otherwise make us cry?
