Memory gap

I am having trouble remembering things lately and sometimes I could not remember exactly what I did yesterday. There was a time that I neatly organized my meds just to find out I left off the prednisone! I could not remember names of some members in the family lately. This all started when I had my major lupus flare last march of this year and started taking pred and plaquenil. Now because of this frustrating short term memory loss, my doctors increased my pred to 20mg and 400mg of plaquenil daily. Anyone out there who has the same experience? I am just wondering if this is normal for a lupus patient to experience. Many thanks!

Ann,

That's interesting, the connection between lack of sleep and the memory fog. That makes sense to me. Today, I went in to work at 5am and I had only about 4 hours of sleep, and I notice I have trouble remembering words etc.

Gehlay, I have to really think about things sometimes. It gets tough to keep on schedule and remember everything. I have to keep a calendar/date book. I have a family calendar in the kitchen and then a personal calendar. Its a struggle sometimes.

Trisha

Ann,

I made the comment to my husband, that after I work over time on Saturday, and I have to be there at 5am, I kind of move slow the rest of the afternoon. Difficult to get motivated, and do anything and he said he noticed that too.

Trisha

YES...wait, I think I've had trouble with memory, I'm trying to remember!

It's a bit irritating. Is it the flares? or the meds? I sure don't know. My meds are being changed but still on prednisone.

Started taking some natural drops for energy and it also helps with clarity of mind. I'm starting to notice a positive difference, yeah!

Hope you get it worked out! And if you remember what helps, let us all know!

Traci

Traci,

I can't remember? what was the question? LOL

When I'm at work, I try to do the math in my head when I pull a part out of stock and mark it down on the carton. I have a calculator handy, but it helps me to concentrate. Before I was diagnosed, I would forget to do things, and my husband would ask me why? I can get distracted easily.

The other day I gave a devotion at camp. Later in the afternoon, I told my mom, "I hated to miss the devotion today. What was it about?" I forgot that I missed the day before.

I think she rolled her eyes at me! We laugh about it.

I can laugh and enjoy life, my forgetfulness and my 3 extra chins from prednisone, or I could be miserable. Some days, it's easier than others!

This post is too funny! I would probably not admit this to anyone, but because it just happened to me two days ago I am going to share it! My husband and I saw something on the news about George Bush when he was the president. They were talking about his term in office. I told my husband that he only ran for one year! Wrong! Accually they where discussion Geroge Bush (the son) who had two terms in office.

Well I said to my husband when was the son president? I couldn’t remember the son every being president. Wow! Eight years was missing from my Brain! It really scared me! But that is brain fog! I don’t have to be on any drugs or be in a flare, it just happens!

Deenie

HI!! I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS IS ONE OF THE LUPUS SYMPTOMS.I WILL SAY SINCE MY LAST FLARE-UP IN 2004 FROM HAVING A BLOOD-CLOT IN MY BRAIN; I BEEN DEALING WITH LOSS OF MEMORY.ITS REALLY DISTRUBING AT TIMES BECAUSE I COULD BE HAVING A CONVERSATION AND WHEN ITS MY TURN TO TALK I FORGET WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY OR SOMETIMES I CAN'T REMEMBER THINGS FROM A DAY BEFORE OR SOMETIMES I HAVE PROBLEMS REMEMBERING IF I PIAD A BILL OR NOT.BUT THANK GOD FOR MY BOYFRIEND HE IS A BLESSING CAUSE IF IT WASN'T FOR HIM I WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AT TIMES; HE THINK FOR THE BOTH OF US..THE MEDS CAN PLAY A BIG ROLE IN HAVING FLARES.THIS IS MY THEORY LEARN YOUR BODY,TAKE NOTES EVERYDAY ON WHAT YOU EAT, HOW YOU FEEL, WHAT YOU'VE DONE THAT DAY ETC.IT REALLY HELPS TO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR BODY AND WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DOES NOT WORK. MOST OF ALL A BETTER VISIT AND A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR DOCTOR SO YOU GUYS CAN BE ON THE SAME PAGE.ITS SO SAD THAT MOST PAITENTS WITH LUPUS NEEDS THE PREDNISONE TO FUNCTION ON A DAILY BASIS. I'M SORRY I WAS TALKING YOUR EARS OFF BUT HOPEFULLY I ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.I TRULY HOPE THINGS GET BETTER FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. TAKE CARE.

Well this threads a laugh a minute with traci and Trisha....nice to see you back with us traci and glowing the light again.lol

Memory gap is a good word for foggyness..it's the lupus that causes it and any meds won't help one bit...it hits me where my brain goes into slow mode and trying to function gets sicker as you get no where...in the plast ste's found me in the kitchen just glaring and the only recognition is hearing him talk load...it's pure madness but it happens and to how stronger your lupus is, is to how much you'll get affected in this manner.

We have to be able to laugh.... laughter is healing. I sometimes will be in a discussion with someone at work, and then wonder if I got my point across, or I forgot the main thing I was going to say, and just strayed off somewhere.

Trisha : )

Deenie

I think you are being too hard on yourself, it wasn't you that couldn't remember, it was just the President was worth remembering? Oh, I'm bad sometimes : p

It's called Lupus Fog. I have gotten really bad too! I find myself writing things down a lot. I keep a calendar next to my bed.

Sure feels great to laugh about stuff! I won't go into politics, but forgetting that G. Bush the son was pres.... maybe you're democrat?

Today I went with folks to pick up my two dogs & their two. I'm in the back where all the dogs are, of course I see mine first and use my "only talk like this in front of animals and babies voice". I happen to glance at the kennel next to my dogs and saw a beautiful Golden Retriever. I elbowed Mom and said "What a beautiful Golden! Reminds me of Mulligan" (my first dog who died about 2 years ago).

It took me a second, she didn't say anything. Then I noticed Dad's dog next to the Golden and DUH, realized it was THEIR dog! I've known that dog for years! See him all the time.

At camp I was forgetful too. Their are 2 campers who asked me, "I have a brain injury, what's your excuse?" It's a camp for survivors of brain injury. And we all have a lot of laughs. We have tears, but they are the good kind - like, blessed to just be alive.

If you actually forget what you were going to post, just write anything and no one will know you actually forgot.

Good to be back, Terri!!!

Traci

Hi Traci,

Ha,Ha,Ha that's really funny. I can picture your mom rolling her eyes about the Golden, but all of us here just nod our heads and say yes, that'a right. But see, we actually have a gift from this, because we get to see everything as new again, which non lupies don't get too.

I don't really remember if I'm a democrat or republican. I feel sorry for both candidates at election time, who knows who will get my vote LOL

Trisha

Oh Trisha i just love this bit mate.

"we get to see everything as new again, which non lupies don't get too"

well i'll have to think of some things i'd like to learn as a good experience again :)

Terri,

I did it right after I posted that today: My hubby and I were going to his mom's today, and he asked if I was getting ready, and I said oh yes, it won't take me long. I'm not going to wash my hair I don't wash it every day so it won't dry out. He said " You said that yesterday" I said I did???? WOW LOL

Hello Trisha,

Omg god mate...i bet he's got to have a laugh about it because i'll ask ste something i get the answer and either the same day or next i'll be asking the same again...and he goes i've already told you and that verbally makes me agrressive with my temper and i always say to him you have and see what it's like.

It really makes we look like we're living in cockoo land....what we need to watch out for his our other half getting we locked up.lol
