Hello everyone! Sorry for not being on here much lately. Allergies and pain have been limiting my outside of work activities. I am unable to take any NSAIDs due to my liver/kidneys not processing them correctly. I do have Tramadol which does absolutely nothing for the pain. Even my feet hurt now. Is there any non NSAID and non narcotic pain medicine you have used? I see my Rheumy in about a month and would like to have some options to talk to her about.
Some Rheumy prefer one med to another you may can call the office and get another appointment sooner. I use the over the counter pain patches and baths with lavender. I am taking Tramadol at the moment.
I found this http://www.medicinenet.com/nonsteroidal_antiinflammatory_drugs/article.htm hopefully it will help you.
When it comes to pain, it's important to consider the source. I have arthritic and muscle pain and prednisone helps some, but I haven't tried anything other than NSAIDs and other OTC meds for that. I also have polyneuropathy for which I take Lyrica for, and that has been very helpful for me (Neurontin is a related drug that can be used for the same purpose.)
For home remedy stuff, I like to take a bath with 2 -3 cups epsom salt, 1/4 cup of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of coconut oil, and several drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Turmeric and eucalyptus can help with inflammation, though turmeric seems more effective for joint inflammation. It does stain the tub and skin orange unless you take a shower right after, so it can be a lot of work -- I usually leave out the turmeric unless I have more energy than usual.
