I was just wondering how you guys/gals deal with the joint pain and muscle pain. Do you take medicine and which medicine has helped you the most to manage pain? My legs were hurting so bad the other night I had to get my husband to finish cooking supper because I couldn't stand and had to go lay down, where I cried myself to sleep. I am not allowed to take any NSAID's like ibuprohen because they mess with my stomach and I take Tizanidine which is a muscles relaxer and sometimes it helps and other times it doesn't so I end up crying myself to sleep.

Ann, you have mentioned this before so now I am finally going to ask this question. Were your levels in the low normal range or below normal? The reason I ask is that I have been told that there is a danger of getting too much Vitamin D and it causing a toxicity. This was told to me by someone who deals with natural herbs and supplements. I trust her very much but I wonder about myself as blood work shows that I am in the normal range and yet I hurt all the time. Thanks, Ann. You give us so much knowledge here. Reet
Thanks, Ann. This helps a lot. I am going to look into it for myself.
I have a similar issue with vitamin D. Mine use to go down to single digit level then I would take 50k eu for a few weeks and then drop to once a month. As soon as I stopped a few months later my pain would be back and the next blood test would show that my levels were back in the single digits. So we did the 50k eus again for longer and it dropped again immediately upon stopping. So now I take it once a week and I can immediately tell the difference if I forget a dose. This doesn’t mean I don’t have weeks when I don’t have really bad pain but it has helped that bone deep constant pain. Good luck!

I take oxycodone for pain and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin. Used to take tizanidine but if began messing with my blood pressure, making me feel faint. I also used to have fentanyl patches. I have more than just lupus pain. I have several levels of vertebral fusions that can cause body mechanics issues along with spondylitis which is rheumatoid arthritis of the spine.
I am not able to take anything for pain because of my liver and my chronic Pulmonay Embolism. I do try to keep my mind busy and positive as much as I can. Pain is a mind activity and the more I think about the pain the more it hurts.
Pain is one bugger of this disease, but I complain to my dr. and he ups my meds if he can. No opiates, No NSAIDS. Cold and heat sometimes helps.
