Lupus & Ear infections

Has anyone had problems with Ear infections, inner and outter ear?

I have not personally experienced it, but I have read of others who have. Because lupus directly affects a person's immune system and reduces his or her ability to prevent and fight infection, it makes sense. Everyone is different, so not everyone gets the same types of infections. I suffer with chronic sinus infections myself. Hopefully you are on meds for lupus that will help you fight these infections. I heard of someone on Prednisone whose infections were reduced because of the medication. You may want to google this information on the web. You will probably find you are not alone with this problem. Happy New Year!

reereepb,

I do suffer from infections, but only in the left ear. It tends to comes on at the time that I experience sinus infections. My son had tubes in his ears when he was quite little and as the doctor explained there are tubes that run from the ears to the throat or something like that. Some people have very short tubes so that if you are suffering a sore throat or sinus infection it can make it's way into your ears. There is very little that can be done to fix it other than anti-biotics which none of us whch to take. I have found that SwimEar tends to help as it dries out any residual water from showers.

Good luck,

DeAnne

Hello reereepb,

There's quite a few ears infections caused by Lupus, as it can never bring one symptom to we straight forward...there's sinus and middle ear infection associated to sinunitis which are suffer from and can also come from TMJ Disease, then Autoimmune inner ear disease known as (AIED) plus swollen lymph nodes can also cause this issues.

I'm adding two links below associated with lupus and ear infections but you should really see either your GP or specialist to get this sorted out, as ear infections can become painful.

this is crazy I've had a TON of ear infections and ear canal infections lately! at least one a month I never thought to put it together that it might be the lupus

Hi Taesra,

I'd asked to be refered to ENT to get yourself checked out where sinunitis as that's constantley with me and if you suffer with this bad Lupus will keep causing it one after the other.

Wonders!! I have been dealing with sinus infections and URIs for the last two months! I am not certain if it is related, however it has been idiopathic and my PCP wants me to take antibiotics! Not for me ... I will let it run its course and treat naturally first, then IF all else fails, I will tx with antibxs. Never thought the two were linked ... hmmm ... thx ladies!!! = )

!!!! That's me!!! I have had swollen neck LNs for the past two months, like never before, with ear / sinus infections. I have had chronic sinusitis through childhood and adult years, poor immune system (related to chronic walking pneumonia, typhoid fever, and samonella as a young child), and asthma. My husband says that I am a walking medical bill!! LOL!! True, true, soooo true!!

Hello GDawg,

Well all the problems can be caused by Lupus and sinusitis is one major problem for me, can't go no where without tissues or my nose drips and Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) as alot to answer for combined with it...do you get the side of your jaw cracking by the ear?

Yes! I have had that for years and have even addressed it with my dentist, since I cannot hold my mouth open long enough for exam / cleaning! He suggested "repair", but I am not too sure about it. I wear a night guard which keeps me from grinding my teeth and TMJD pain / headache in the morning.

I actually did when I was much younger so I don't really remember it too much and wouldn't have thought to consider that it would be related to anything (and I doubt my parents did either). But I always had ear infections and swollen glands, and i eventually had tubes put in my ears.

The repairs only last upto 5yrs the most which i've read up on and i wear a mouth sheild at night which is splintered to grip my teeth from movement if i have a seizure, it's quite tight to remove.

With some members it's come to locking of the jaw when it gets to bad :)

Hello , ear infections are no fun!!! I've had this since i was a child , it's hard at times to deal with . I do and old remy that my grandmother did , put a piece of white cotton in the ear for about 2-3 days and there after am okay .... Beverly L.

Omg this all sounds so familiar… Tmj, ear infectionsswollen glands and lymph nodes, since a young child…recently recurring ear infections and tmj problems adding to my migraines and now sinusitis…never related it to my autoimmune issues or my lupus…thank you for the heads up… Love you all…~Maré

Hello Flutterbymare,

It's the same here i was diagnosed with TMJ Disease besides have lymph nodes way besides i was diagnosed with Lupus, then when i saw the specialist about my TMJ they told me i had bad sinusitis from the Lupus which was'nt helping swollen eyes underneath carrying fluid but the sjogren's causes this besides.

I've got a bursted left ear drum that's never healed and that's a nightmare to infection's besides volume....Lupus can cause such alot besides damage.

Hi, no I've never had an internal ear infection but if I get a sun burn on the outter edges of my ear it will get a little infected because of the way I sleep on it.

Ms.P,

On the edges of your ear which go infected do they feel like watery blisters? :)

I had so many as a child, my mother did the same thing!!! I remember going to school with cotton in my ears and the kids teasing me, but I knew there was a reason behind the "madness" = )

@ Tez 20, Yes they will ooze and get crusted and leave a scar when they heal. It is gross to have to peal off the dead skin afterwards. What do you use when this happens to you?.

Hello Ms.P,

Your ears do get scared off them and i use a steriod plaster as i can't use the steriod creams now as my skins gone past those...mine are called "BETESIL - Betamethasone 2.250mg medicated plaster...they're the highest steriod form of plaster going, they bun the fluid out we can feel it and once they've done it they start a better healing process, the draw out the fluid quickly to stop infection.

I've added a picture of these somewhere on the site and can i lay my hand on it....so annoying.
