Good morning everyone. I’m just curious if anyone has hearing loss and if it is related to lupus? I really think mine is getting worse. I have another appt to get tested again in August. Next week I am having an electronistygmagram for the dizziness. I have this ear pain in my left ear that comes and goes but on the days that its there it feels like a severe ear infection. Has anyone had this test also? What is it like?
I havent heard of the test; but have Had some hear loss which is getting worse as well. If you hear any info please let me know.
I hope they can find the issue and help u
Interestingly, I also have been having left ear/jaw pain over the last several months. It comes and goes and when it's there it's more of pulsing pain, very painful though. I don't have dizziness with it, although I do have dizziness occasionally. I would be very interested in finding out about what they tell you and what others have experienced. I have been considering seeing the doc about it, but haven't yet.
Ill jeep everyone posted after this test.
I also have had hearing loss in my left ear and ear pain and tinnitus........I have my migraines on the left side and before my migraine hits, I have dizziness and face / jaw pain with swelling on the left side of my face. My hearing loss does seem to be getting slowly worse over the past few years just in my left ear. I think LUPUS is responsible for all of these problems.
I agree…I think lupus is responsible for ALOt of things known and unknown!
I googled electronystagmagram and it gave a description of the test and what it's supposed to look for but now I can't remember what all it said :-( Sorry!
That's for sure! Unfortunately, not even the doctors seem to know whether it's Lupus or not.

I also have hearing loss in my left ear and constant tinnitus. I went to a neurologist, he did an MRI and found that I have an acoustic neuroma on the left side. It is a small non-cancerous tumor on the 8th cranial nerve. Mine is very small and has never grown I am very lucky. I do know people that have had pain like you describe and dizziness is a given. I have had mine since 2000 and I just live with it, I even forget that is there! It would be good to rule that out. I'm not trying to scare you, but check all options. Lupus is causing me the most problems though. It is hard to say just what lupus causes because it manifests so differently in everyone. Good luck and keep us posted.
i just have to amen that statement heymj, got some doctors on my sh t list today, i have ear pain too, comes on quick, very sharp and gone or it will pulse and hurts like heck, i constantly have fluid in my ears, its clear, but i am a clean ear freak and i will have jaw pain and numbness as well, get dizzy too, i thinks it the lupus the doctor is not sure she thinks i have, lol

All of my ear pain is TMJ related. Have you had your jaw checked? It feels just like a massive ear infection.
My hearing has gotten sketchy. Especially at times when there is background noise.
I have horrible tinnitus also. I went to a ENT and he said it is from a virus. Has anyone tried any over the counter remedies that have helped?
I am asking my Rheumie tomorrow about this. It seems like I am turning the volume up on the TV frequently.
My daughter does not appreciate how loud I need the sound on. I have had the PCP check my ears so now I will ask the Rheumie. Either way, I am keeping the volume up!
Actually I WAS told that I have TMJ…what do you for that?
Your dentist will make a special bite guard for you. I had to wear mine for 2 weeks straight only taking out to clean and brush teeth. During those two weeks, my ear pain “magically” disappeared. Now I just wear my bite guard while I sleep at night. No more horrible ear pain. The specialist who looked at my jaw said that the nerve affected by TMJ often manifests jaw pain as ear pain. The body can’t distinguish where the pain is coming from.
