Lupus butterfly rash

I have a question about the butterfly rash. When you get it how long does it last? I have noticed that every time I take a shower, I get the butterfly rash. Eventually it goes away. It is really weird because it is so noticeable. I don't have a rash anywhere else. I thought maybe I was allergic to the shampoo or soap, but I only have the rash on my face and it is just on my cheeks and across my nose.

I took a picture of it for my primary doctor who I am seeing today. I would think it would last longer than it does on me, but I don't know.

Maybe someone can answer my question for me? I will definitely be talking with my doctor today. I am sure she will say bring it up to my rheumatologist, but maybe she will know.

Thanks!

Nan

May I suggest you are having nice hot showers and heating your blood? I have noticed same for myself, but because I run a dog rescue and get a lot of itchy dogs through, I therefore bath the itchy dogs in luke warm water so as not to heat their blood and make them itchy. I applied the same theory to myself, cooler showers meant I wasn't heating my blood, and didn't end up with the rash!

No medical evidence, just what I have observed.

Hope this works for you too, cheers

I take cool or lukewarm showers. It seems to keep my skin inflammation at bay.

My butterfly rash is very faint most of the time, hot showers do bring it out, keep it a little cooler it helps. My rash calms shortly after my shower, lucky I guess…"

I only get the butterfly rash when my lupus is out of control but then again my lupus is a lot harsher then most, maybe you were exposed to the sun that day. Remember we’re not allowed to be in the sun for long periods of time without coverage.

nan, I have the Lupus butterfly rash and mine never goes away. I had it for several years before I was diagnosed with Lupus but just thought I was overheated. And I always take cool, lukewarm showers so it is not brought on by the water temperatures. It is just part of my Lupus symptoms that never go away. I just cover it up with some tinted moisturizer or some of my Almay makeup.

The longest mine has lasted is a week, most of the time it’s faded in 24 hours. I take lukewarm showers since showers do bring it out.

My butterfly rash has been with me the entire time, over 10 years, and it goes from pale red to bright red. The sun and stress really make it come out brighter. Sitting at the PC makes it really red, too. I can feel when it is inflamed....very uncomfortable. My SLE flares all of the time so the rash will probably be with me for a long time.

Hi, dealing with the butterfly rash is very hard to understand!!! I also have this , sometimes when am out in the sun for a long time it flares up , if I touch things it flares , or it comes when it want -smile!!! My doctor perscribed a shampoo to wash my body with, it does wonders, the name is Ketoconazole shampoo 2%. It really helps me !! Ask your doctor about it!! I find it helps alot with the itching and dry the rash from flaring bad through the day , I only use it once a day on the face, and bathe my body with it also eventhough the rash is not on my body. Hope this help you, take care …Beverly L.

I showed my doctor what I thought was the butterfly rash and he said it was from the prednisone. So its hard to tell or know for sure as I am working off of the prednisone and I still have it. I will be showing it to my new rheumy and see what she says about it. Mine gets worse when I shower and when I wake up in the morning. Its red all day long though, and gets really hot on and off.

I only get the Butterfly rash when I am having a flare up.

Hi! i started before the rash comes when our body goes into a stress mood or temp change and of course dirt or sweat . Keep baby wipes with you !!!...Beverly L.

Oh and try not STRESSING or around things or people that are STRESS factors-LOL..xoxox
