New to all of this and just wondering if the cortisone cream will eventually relieve my hands? I have welts all over my fingers (inside) and across my knuckles which are extremely sensitive to the touch. They are also on my toes and elbows, but no where near the same extent. Have been using the cream the dermo gave me for 11 days and see the dermo again in 4 days. While I haven't felt any improvement in the sensitivity, I have woken up the past 3 or 4 mornings without tingling/dead sensation in my fingers which as been SENSATIONAL!!!! Thanks for your impute!
Are the points of swelling only at the joints, or all over? My finger and toe bumps were on the knuckles/joints & turned out to be Raynaud’s. I also get a separate itchy, red rash.
Hi, I have a similar problem with my hands and feet. Hands are so bad that I wear gloves everyday to protect my hands from hitting against something and causing pain. Sometimes, I can’t wear enclosed shoes because of the bumps/sores on my toes. I have used several different steroids creams for the last 2 years and no improvement. I saw the head of the Lupus Center at John Hopkins last year(Sept) and she put me on Benlysta & Plaquenil(400mg) and there has been no improvement. I was told that I do not have Raynauds. Oh, I also wake up to tingling swollen fingers. Now for the good news, for the last 3 weeks I have been putting Bag Balm(purchased at Walgreens) on my hands and feet at night before I go to bed. I have started to see improvement. I’m actually typing this note with my fingers before I had to use a stylus. Might be worth a try. Note that it does not smell good. Good Luck and hang in there!
Yes on the joints, but also on the inside, as in turn your hand over so as the palm is facing up, then all up the fingers in between the joints.

You can also find it at www.bagbalm.com or at amazon.com. It’s in a little green tin box.
Bag Balm is a great product! It is actually a Lanolin based ointment for Cow Utters when they become dry & cracked. It is safe for their calves when suckling. I buy mine @ Walmart in the pet section. So you should be able to find it in an Animal Supply store. It is a square tin green can. Best of luck to you~

Just did a google search on Bag Balm and came up with this......has your Dr OKed the use of Bag balm Swilly? This is all so confusing!
Hi, my doctor is aware that I’m using the bag balm. He just said that if I had any increased irritations, negative changes in my skin to let him know immediately. So far, I have not had any problems.
Noahandme,
It is safe for humans because it is just a petrolatum lanolin base. No alcohol in it either. I used to use it on my Diabetic patients feet since they are super sensitive. I know it sounds crazy that it is for cows, but a lot of people use it for their dry heels & hands all the time. Sorry if I confused you thinking it was just for animals. It really is a great product for healing, unlike Vaseline that has no Lanolin. Good luck!
