Im over it!

Im over the rudiness of those that work in doctors offices..its like without patients they would not be needed and will not have a job !! REALLY ! ! its crazy because they are not the doctors and they should not talk to anyone unprofessional in a professional work setting...they should remember in this economy they could be easily replaced..they fail to realize that when a person goes to see the doctor its not a social call its to see about their health..so if they're having a bad day and work around those that are ill maybe they should not go to work that day because sick people is the one who visits doctors not people who are well...DUH!!! and you were hired to perfrome a job so either do your job or go home...It goes doctors-patients not patients-office drama...they should remember..jus because they are having a bad day..they dont know what the person comming in for and should not take anything lightly..they never no were a person is comming from or were they have been and be honest...its none of their business..so stop trying to be the doctor and do what you were hire to do and just set the appointments..if you wanted to be a doctor you should of went to medical school and passed the necessary boards to be a doctor..you went to school or training to set the appiontments so do that...HIPPA is important and its the law. HOW ABOUT THEM APPLES?

AMEN

Okkkkkkkkkk!!!!! Not sure about what happened to you at your appointment, but you don't seem too happy about it. SORRY!!!!!!!!

I understand your frustration. When the person behind the glass graces me with her very rude acknowledgment (it can take a long time as she visits with other staff members and laughs) I think of her as "the window witch." There are rude employees every where...just have to try and ignore them. Or you could stick your neck out and mention it to the doctor----although the person/s could be their immediate family! It’s funny that you write this because just last week I wrote a two page letter about an office worker that was so rude to me about getting my necessary refills. I was so upset all day that my blood pressure went through the roof. Needless to say she was fired because this wasn’t the first time this happens. The person that spoked to me about this letter thanked me for letting them no about this incident so that they could take the appropriate steps to get rid of a bad employee!! She told me that many people don’t say anything so the behavior goes unpunished!! Well I’m tired of being quite and taking it because we have enough on our plates to have to deal with rude people!! From now on if I encounter rude staff I will go to the top to let the facility no how the employees are treating the patients. I hope your day got better!
Hugs

I look at this in just the opposite way. I don't know where they are coming from or what they are going through. They may also have lupus, but have to work and may be a single parent...not that that is an excuse. I like to acknowledge that they seem to be having a bad day and ask if there is anything I can do? I'm amazed at how many never realized they were in a funk and become quite pleasant. just a thought...

OMG so true

Although it is frustrating, you should maintain your calm and tell the Dr. exactly what happened. My father is a Doctor and I know that he has fired undisciplined staff. Dr.s take that seriously, especially if they may be violating HIPPA laws. We also need to remember that not everyone in a Drs office is the enemy. Sometimes I find when I am having a bad day I find myself taking it out on people. Again, If you can be the bigger person, you will probably have a much better visit, unfortunately the front staff form unfair impressions of people.

Just my two cents,

DeAnne

I always be pleasant back to them because like what artchick said, but then if they are overboard rude I turn in a written complaint to the doctor and my insurance company. That way they can’t come back on me saying I was acting like a crazy patient.

I agree totally with you!

We need to be sure to tell the doctor straight to him/her. They need to know if their staff is bad. This is especially true right now as in the very near future doctors will be paid on their performance and now take very seriously the patient experience like never before. Most doctors want to serve their patients well. They don’t make millions any more like people think and work very hard to earn what they do. I am not a doctor but know many that really do care about us patients. I think it’s a disservice if we don’t let them know. Plus, it can help us in the long run if they hire better staff!

Sometime it’s the Dr

That are rude and don’t have the time to listen to you, I truly believe I would of been diagnosis eArier if my PCD would of listened to
Me and not cont. to put me on antibiotic and now I have very few that I can tame

It's unfortunate that it's true that it sometimes takes years for some of us to get a diagnosis. To this day my blood work still shows negative but I have a positive biopsy. That said, if you don't feel like your Doc is listening to you, ask for a second opinion...that is your right. It took my finding that one doc that was willing to look further. You must advocate for yourself, but in a way much like Tina said in writing, calmly so as not to be ignored.

You can do it...we will be here to help you.

If I had a problem with anyone in my Rheumatologist I would tell her & she would take care of it. I don't hesitate to voice my displeasure to office managers or Dr's. The sqeeky wheel gets the grease.

I jus have a question..so when you acknowledge that they seem to be having a bad day and ask if there is anything you can do? REALLY!! what can you do! and you get them to realized they were in a funk and become quite pleasant...they are getting paid and they suppose to be professional so if thats the case you need to be on payroll..or be part of the EAP (Employee Assistant Program) as a counselor or something...Im not going to the doctor to assist the employees*** Im there for ME..and its not a social call at all...Im not there to patch anyone up or make them feel better Im their to see about ME..not being selfish but Im not paying to work for the doctors or office staff Im paying to get help..and I can't help anyone at that moment until I first help myself... Im there to be a patient not an employee advocate..! ! !

My daughter had the rude employees in a doctors office and she spoke to the doctor about it and the office e mployees were very nice to her after. I don't care what kind of bad day you have, you have

to be pleasant to the people that are paying you.

We all feel the same way. Just handle it differently. My way lets the employee know that their behavior was noticeably negative without having them officially reprimanded. I'm not expecting them to want me to do anything for them, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that this is a one time instance and this helps them realize it. In most cases, they apologize and their behavior changes completely and they are appreciative that I seem to care. If, on the other hand, I've tried being nice and it occurs the next visit, I inform the doctor.

I try to treat people the way I want to be treated.

Great way to handle it. I was told, quite bluntly, from my Nephrologist that most office staff aren't fans of Lupus patients. It seems we tend to forget, are irritable, etc (Yeah, like we don't already know that) so there may be occaision when a premature image of you is already in their mind. Apparently, I am pretty pleasant most of the time, but gosh I honestly have gotten lost on the way to the docs, so the memory is pretty bad. It may be that the last time I was there I was a total B#$@# and just forgot...okay, we have to look at the bright side sometimes. Wanna see some whiners, try a pain management office :). But a great way to handle it, Artchick. Sometimes just letting people know you may be having a bad day can be a big help.

So when u were told, quite bluntly, from your Nephrologist that most office staff aren't fans of Lupus patients did you ask him "Why are those people still working in doctors off who do see Lupus Patients ? So what if we forget jus continue to remind us..our disease is not something we ask for so if we got to deal with it for the rest of our lives ..Im sure they could deal with it for the few minutes that we are being helped...they should not be judgemental because they have never walked in our shoes and anyway we deal with so much so what if they are judgemental who gives a rats a$$..we should not have to explain how we feel to anyone ..we are there to get help & again it is NOT a SOCIAL CALL....we are there for a service..not to be anyone friends...and anyway again they are there to do a job..so how hard is it to jus do what they are getting paid for...I have NO UNDERSTANDING when someone is being DISRESPECTFUL AT ALL...I may be in a SHITTY mood or feeling like Im at death door but Im not a person to be DISRESPECTFUL and Im not asking them to do me any favors Im paying to see the doctor who I choose to provide me with the most important thing in life which is QUALITY healthcare for a disease that could be fatal at any moment so on that note !!! In not interested in how their day is going, what they are going thru at home, or even that their car broke down on the way to work...thats not what Im there for...Im there for a disease that could be fatal at any moment....

This is so important that there have been times that i have chosen to change doctors because of the unprofessional conduct of the office staff. The apple does not fall from the tree.... is how I see it. bad office staff.... not so good doctor.
