I'm becoming paranoid

It seems I’m blaming all my ailments on lupus… It seems like now that I was diagnosed something is always wrong. Has anyone ever experienced any cuticle swelling? I’m trying to figure out if its a symptom or its something else completely? Any insight is greatly appreciated

Hello Torie,

Don't get going paranoid on us...as you can have swollen cuticles with Raynauds, vasculitis, Sacleroderma, broken blood vessels, blisters and sometimes infections.

I have them and they can turn out very sore, you do really need to see a Dermo when these issues are happening regarding the Lupus.

Where is the swelling precisely and what's it look like?

Terri :)

I do think it all comes down to lUPUS. I am probley wrong....

but its been this way my whole life. PAin in legs... Bronchitis... to phneumonia... VIRAL infections.

And when I get older.. the LUPUS is daignosed.

So it's okay. Lupus is ALL over your body.. in the blood.

it affects so many things/

It’s my thumb on my right hand. Just about the entire cuticle is swollen and extremely sore… This is the first time and I’m wondering if its a symptom, or side effect from the new mess or what

That’s suppose to be the new meds

Hello Torie,

Have they said you have Raynauds or scleroderma as i have both and have the swelling around the fingers...Lupus can cause these conditions but they do mainly come from what i've mentioned...join the raynauds group on the main page.

Plus ask your specialist about the above :)

yes you can have them from various reasons to very normal ones as well. I think worrying that everything is connected to SLE is very common especially first years. Then you eventually begin to realize how you have it and ways it pops out in your body.

When you have regular visit to your Rheum i would show him or if you have derm doc on your team they would know as well. But unless it is infected and not getting better, I not worry till your next appt...which with my rheum is every 3 months and more often if things are going on.

I really recommend that for your primary doctor if you have insurance, that you get an Internist as they are best at diagnosing so they also would have good idea and if not at least know what specialist to see.

If it torn or infected in anyway use triple antibiotic like neosporin and wrap in plastic wrap or waterproof bandage for at least few hours so skin really absorbs it. I personally do this to help any cuts since i tend to take at least twice as long as most people to heal or if i do not stay on top of it turns into bad infections.

But you are not paranoid as if you read on here, many people want to attribute any thing wrong with lupus....which it could be related but it also could be something completely different so just keep eye...keep it clean, and it lasts then show your doctor or if you are worried always ask so you do not worry.

If you are lucky ...and get a good doctor who really connects with you they will give you their email so you can ask them about it that way plus even send photo as well ....saves them time as to visit if it was nothing plus helps you to stop worrying.

So keep an eye on it and i know many people gave you some ideas which could be the cause, i have had mine swell up but was due to tearing it and just like i said easily get infections...but the triple antibiotic cream plus keeping it very clean during day finally worked.

I also though have discussed my problem about healing slowly with dermo doc and they went over things i can do....so ask if it does not clear up.

Hello, I was only told I had skin lupus and moderate arthritis. It was only 2 weeks ago, so they may not be done with me just yet. I"m awaiting an appointment with a dermatologist so I'll see what he or she says. I will join the group and see what it's all about. Thank you

Thank you all for your replies, i'm still in pain from this finger and can barely use it. Can't let anything touch it so it's going to be a very long day.

I finally heard back from both Doctors, that made me feel great. I go see my primary doc in the morning and hopefully will get some relief… Thanks everyone for your support

I agree with you, everyday I wake up with different ailments, and I am wondering if its Lupus or old age, now I a hip problem need a MRI. I am having much pain when driving, walking and especially bending down. Never had cuticle swelling, but it might be finger swelling that starts with the top of your finger, call the dr.

Thanks all… I saw my doc today and it was an infection, she had to cut and drain and I’m still in pain… Hopefully the pain killer will kick in and give me a rest

@LupusSUCKS

my god-sis has had Lupus for years... and she has developed osteo/ with the bones. had both hios replaced

As women are bones r more fragile. but the lupus and the lupus drugs- like STERIODS - can quicken the deteriating of the bone.

I am only sharing so u know ur not alone with the hip thing.

I wish u the best - i know she sufferedfor a couple years til the point she couldnt barely walk.

So dont let it get that bad....please/ no point to suffer if there is something to do for it.

but i know te decision i still difficult.

hey ! I had something similar about a year ago.... thank God i knew what it was... it was MRSA... my daughter had gotten infection when she was about 2 years old... and I learned abou this particular germ strain.

then about 2 years after that.. i had a full run in with it. It attacked me so haard.

I was in hosptial with fever of 104.

it was not pretty.

though u may not have mrsa..... if ur doc didt mention-- make sure u grap some cleaning agent from the store.. its where u buy paraoxide and rubbing alcohol. it comes ina blue bottle....

its cled HIBIcleanse.

it is extremely helpful with fighting skin bacteria.

and no baths. only showers.

keep the area covered with clothes....

and wash linens like crazy.

Wishing u FULL healing over this infection!

Hello Torie, I do have the tendency to blame everything that goes wrong on lupus, last year my retna detached at age 46 and I thought it must be my lupus causing me to have a eye problem, I take plaquenil 200 mg twice a day and I have been told that it could also affect your vision, however my opthamologist doesn't think it has anything to do with lupus he said it happens sometimes and that it is just normal wear and tear as the body ages, and possible eye straining and that it happens to people who are near sighted, but somehow I still feel it has to do with my lupus. Best wishes to you Torie, and may God continue to bless you!

I also have a tendency to blame everything on Lupus, blockage in my heart, I only see with my rite eye, left one has been gone since birth, and I also go to eye doctor every 6 months to check out my vision which has been getting bad throughout the years. Is it Lupus or Old age?

phoenix,

reply to Torie Wise, you wrote that you felt as though you were becoming paranoid. you probably are not! I had a roughy time with that for years after I was diagnosed. I thought everything big or small was from lupus. even after I realized it could not be I spent tons of time trying to figure out why these things were happening. does anyone take antidepressants or tranquilizers?

I have something similar my cuticles are always raw and dry since being diagnosed. I have to really keep oil everywhere in the house and in my purs. I gets pretty bad and bleeds at times I dont use oil or lotion.
