Hand clumsiness

Okay fellow Lupies, have any of you had issues with dropping things? I seem to have periods where I fumble with everything, like I just can't control my fingers. It's only been going on for a short time and since my diagnosis is fairly new, I thought maybe someone else may have had a similar issue. Either that or something else is wrong!

Yes more often then not also I can only describe as episodes of my hands won’t work

Lately my hands get a little bit shaky, and when people hand me change, my hands just don’t grab it right and it drops. I also wake up with arthritis in my hand, also new. Mun

I too had that problem, when first diagnosed. I never had it checked out, but, it might be nerve related, it does not happen now.

yes i tend to drop things sometimes too. it is like my hands are all of the sudden weak, and i lose my grip, also sometimes it is like i tell my hand to do someting and my hands don't do it......it is weird.....just wanted you too know you are not alone.....god bless and a HAPPY NEW YEAR,,,,purrs..catspaw1955

I have it too. Some is caused by my thin skin (from prednisone). My hands are very slick and dry--hand lotion helps. Some is caused by numbness. Had a MRI and there are two herniated disks in my neck causing the numbness. I always thought it was the lupus. I get steroid epidurals every six months, mostly diminishes the numbness.

I have to pay real close attention to what I'm doing in order not to drop or fumble things. I transport containers of liquid by putting it down on counters or hard surfaces as walk to my destination. Works for me.

Make sure you let your doctor know. Hope you find some degree of relief. I know how frustrating it is.

You got to hold on.

I have it, too. Sometimes I just loose grip or my hand gets very shaky. I started doing excerises for my hands and that seems to help. My hands hurt a lot, too, so the excerises hurt, but really have helped. I got one of those stress balls and use that.

This happens to me too. It isn't constant but becoming more frequent. I have no idea why it happens but fatigue and stress definitely make it worse.

I know what you mean. I’m constantly dropping things. It’s like my brain forgets it’s holding something and just lets go. I have to concentrate on whatever I’m doing so I don’t drop it. Dry skin does play a big part in it as well so try to use lotion a lot.

That's it exactly! I feel like my hands don't work!

Thanks so much for the replies! I'm so glad it's not just me! It's just like, all of a sudden my hands don't want to do what I tell them to do, but it's not all of the time!

Yes, yes, yes! I fumble and drop all the day long. Even when I make a conscience effort to make certain I have a firm grasp on things, I find I will drop or fumble it. My cell phone suffers on a regular basis. Cutting or chopping items for dinner is always an issue. Usually I cut myself along the way and, because of the high dose of Motrin I take (I’m guessing it’s the Motrin) it takes a considerable amount of time to coagulate. I’ve also just recently been diagnosed with SLE and, oddly enough, pain and swelling in my right wrist and clumbsyness in my hands were the complaints that sent me to Kaiser and from whence my diagnosis ultimately came. So, in my case, yes, yes, yes, clumbsy and fumbling hands are indeed Lupus symptoms for me. And, like all my SLE related issues, there are good and bad days. However, the degree of clumbsyness and fumbling isn’t relative to the level of pain I may have. My hands can’t be trusted period.

I thought I was the only one with this! Using a pen/pencil is so hard. I have broken countless # of plates and cups. It’s to the point that my family won’t even flinch when they hear a loud noise unless I yell “help”. Does anyone know what it is due to?

Thanks Susan! I was just diagnosed in November, and I have fibromyalgia also, but this just started recently. I know when my legs hurt from the fibro I trip over my own feet, it's just weird.

I have this quite often, it happens when lupus inflames the nerves in your spine, so you can get symptoms much like M.S. It's called Central nervous system involvement.

Thank you Sheila. As we speak I am having a really hard time with my right hand- I’ve dro my phone 5 times today.

Thanks Sheila! I have tried to ed as muchildren as I can, but I have notice that so excited symptoms are not necessarily common so I really haven't seen anything on this.
