I haven’t posted in awhile. I had a very active and bad case of lupus in my 20s and early thirties. Then a long remission. Now, in my mid fifties…it is back, along with Sjogrens Syndrome. For the past day or two, I have a rash on my chest…sort of looks like a sunburn. It burns and itches. Cortisone cream mixed with Sarna Cream helps a little. Is this a lupus symptom? If so, what helps???
Oh yes. I get the rash a lot. clobetasol is good for that. prescription. Mine doesn't usually itch too much In fact that's how my dermo got me diagnosed with lupus with a biopsy 3 years ago I am 73.. I just had, have a bad one on arms, legs and chest, more on chest. she biopsyed again and surprise, surprise lupus. I have different symptoms now. Long story short. high resolution Ct shows I have interstitial lung disease. Can't get a good definition but not good. have appointment this Thurs, which I am going to see if I can get one sooner. My pcp said biopsy is probably next. I just hope I am asleep for that one.
The rash is my biggest symptom. with the mouth sore, which plaquenil took care of. The sun sensitivity. I called myself lucky, not much pain at all.
I owned my own business til last year. I had to give it up because of the fatigue. I still do a few bridal alterations at home. I just love doing them. In the last month I have been in ER 2. Once for chest pains. I was OK but didn't want to take the chance. Once for vertigo. That scared the crap out of me to see the whole room spinning around at 90 MPH.
They deemed that to be inflamation from the ent removing the dead skin out of my ears. I don't get wax buildup I get dead skin buildup.
Which Lupus do you have? I have SLE. My kids look at me like I'm going to die tomorrow. I should be grateful that they care. I have just gone through a real back "weak" phase. I couldn't get out of my own way. I think that is passing. I actually went into 2 stores yesterday without wanting to lay on the floor. Went out to dinner with friends last night. Cindy
We have to push past our pain. I recently had a lymph node reaction and needed two shots, 1 steroid, 1 penicillin to deactivate the inflammation. It worked. Maybe a shot will work for your rash
I get that also but am not sure on help
I have chest rash. But not itchy. I’m getting other bumps on other parts of my body that do itch. These I treat with cortisone which helps the itch. Benlysta is supposed to be good for rash. Given by IV and is an immune suppressant and can help fatigue. But a big step
I have that too on chest, arms, legs and hands. I use steroid cream but it doesn’t always help. Sometimes I think that sunscreen irritates it. I had a biopsy and it is lupus. It does itch sometimes too. Hope yours is better soon.
I got the last one on Halloween and didn't itch til 6 days latr when I was in Vegas. called my PCP and she faxed a steriod prescription. That , of course, messed up my INR. If it's not one thing its another.
Take care everyone.

Cindy,
Can I ask if you take Coumadin and why? I see you mentioned your INR.
Thanks
Lavender oil mixed with some water. Tumeric supplement or in some tea will help if its innflammation i live off of that. Ive had rashes since 12 now im 24
Pl3se see a dermatologist there are several stages of SLE Lupus involving rashes. On a personal level take cooler showers and try not to sweat too much that seems to aggravate the rashes a bit hope I helped God Bless Julie
You asked about the coumadin. I had a bowel infarction 13 years ago and the surgeon that removed a section of my bowel stated I will have to be on coumadin "long term" It's a pain because everything you take or eat can effect your INR.
Are you on coumadin?
Cindy
I had that before my dx, then once on plaquenile and avoiding the sun and heat, it has never returned. Now if the rest of my symptoms would disappear, that would be fantastic!
I have the chest rash but it rarely itches. It has spread to my understand, which do itch due to deodorants and sweat.
This was the first clue my lupus was back, steroid cream from derm worked for a while, also kenlog injections, however both are short lived relief this rash just keeps coming back over and over.
My rash comes and goes at will. It doesn't itch so I don't care about it. I always wear long sleeves and long pants due to the sun sensitivity so it's not an issue for me.
Take care everyone.

my sister has had a rash for about a year (no lupus or anything) and apart from using special soap to bathe and prescription steroid cream, the only thing that made a big difference was prescription strength vitamin D, from dermatologist. When it ran out, she didn’t follow through , but that’s another story. I don’t know if that would help a lupus rash. My doc has me take 200 mg vitamin D twice a day because, like a lot of us, my D is low. I buy it at the heath food store.
I get a bad rash on chest and extremeties. Rheumy says Lupus. Almost looks like a sunburn. It itches a little. I have had this last one about 6 weeks. Seems like it was going away and broke out on my belly .Nobody seems to be to concerned so I guess I won't be.
Good Luck
