Blurry eye

A little over a year ago I started getting this little grey fuzzy cloud that pops up for a few minutes at a time (usually no longer than 5 minutes), It seems my eye is good one minute and then all of a sudden this cloud pops up and blocks my vision in primarily in the center. It is only ever my right eye. It used to happen only 1x week and then it became 1x day and now it happens about 2x day and i even got it in my left eye for the first time. I don't mind that it happens, I just dont want it to be something that indicates a problem. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Could this be the prednisone? another medication? or a lupus symptom. Please help!

I am not a doctor, but that to me sounds like a migraine aura. Migraines don't always give you a headache, and can just give you that fuzzy grey spot, or zigzag lines, or any number of other weird things. Here is a great video that talks about all aspects of migraines and has a visual reference that helped me figure out that my crazy zig-zags (as well as the blurry spot) were migraine troubles and not eye troubles. I hope this is helpful!

Its the plaquinal

Its the plaquenil too much use of that medication can give u eye problems including vision loose.

I go to the ophthalmologist every six months due to lupus and taking Plaquenil. Seems I have all kinds of vision issues which the doctor thinks are nothing to worry about.. I take all their tests which don't result in any problems. There are color charts in a book with numbers you find by the contrasting colors (in dot format) which are often faint. I have looked at that book for so many years that I think I have the "hidden numbers" memorized. Here is one good thing---I am 62 and have avoided the sun for a long time. My eyes are blue and so far I don't have cataracts. The doctor said that sun exposure can cause cataracts. Anyone hear that before? I am extremely nearsighted -6 in one eye and -7 in the other. When I was a kid I wore glasses so thick that the other kids made fun of me---plus I always had a big dent in my nose! OK...I am doing some Lupus Fog rambling here---sorry! But yes, you must go to an eye specialist!

Actually prednisone also causes cataracts I am 67 and have cataracts in both eyes and my vision kinda sounds like yours

That is exactly what it looks like! The visual aura! the only difference is that mine usually dont last longer than 5 minutes and the video said it is usually 30 minutes. I'm going to bring this up with my eye doctor! You said you experience this too? Is it something that I should be worried about? Thanks for your help!

Im on prednisone and plaquinil, both which i know both can cause eye problems but the doctors never seemed too worried about this. They originally thought it might be a problem with my heart that was causing this but those results came back somewhat normal. I even went to see a neuro-opthamatrist because in addition to the lupus, i have myasthenia gravis which is an autoimmune disorder of the nervous system and he couldnt seem to explain it. Talencia brought up a good point that it could b a visual aura migraine. I made another appointment with the eye doctor and i'm going to bring up the medications and the visual aura. Thank you so much for all of your help! I feel like i'm one step closer to figuring this out!

Yup, I've had that blurry, grey spot a few times. Mine didn't last very long either, depending. However, mine didn't repeat too often, and stopped after four or five times. That being said, I have a LOT of what I call sinus headaches. From what I understand, these are actually ALSO migraines, as sinus headaches are caused by sinus infections, which apparently aren't common. So these visual auras are not the only indication that I might have an issue with migraines.

I think it's a neurologist that handles migraine issues? I haven't gone to see anyone about mine yet, though I probably should. I just hate to add one more doctor and one more bill to the growing list, you know? ::sheepish:: I know, that's bad of me. I CAN reassure you that this is not an issue with cataracts. I've had one myself, and they do NOT come and go at all. Course, mine developed rather quickly. Regardless, do mention the migraine aura idea to your opthemologist and/or your PCP. I have no idea what they will suggest, but it's important to let them know! Best of luck hon!

Ya I understand not wanting to add another doctor to the already long list (I think I'm up to at least 6). Sometimes I just wish I had a team of doctors from varied specialties who all worked together on my case. It's difficult having so many doctors who are not always on the same page.

Ya I agree, I don't think it's cataracts either. The weird thing is that I have mentioned this blurry eye problem to my rheumatologist, neuro ophthalmologist, regular ophthalmologist, primary care physician, and neurologist over the past year. None of them had an answer for me which is frustrating! Hopefully this information about migraines will lend some more insight. Fingers crossed! Thanks for all of your advice :-)

I doubt it is the prednisone. I have been on heavy doses of prednisone and got nothing like that. I did have vision issues for a brief time when I had kidney failure due to lung cancer chemo.

It may be phospholipids it causes your blood to clot that’s how I lost the sight in my right eye. Have your doctor check for that because I was lucky that a clot didn’t go to my brain and caused some sort of brain damage. Take care and god bless

I use to before seeing the ophthalmologist who started me on restasis. It has been the best thing for my eyes

I suggest you see eye Dr or retina specialist. I had this when I was first diagnosed. Was a retinal vein occlusion. Lost vision in that eye. Was happening several times and no one could figure out till too late. Good luck.
