scared eyes are blurry at times i have dry eyes and spot behind eye takin plaquanel in past
I would get your eyes checked. When you're on Plaquenil, you should be getting eye check-ups every 6 months. It's rare, but Plaquenil can damage your retina and the damage can occur even after you've stopped taking it since it hangs around in your body for awhile. Dry eyes can also cause blurriness, but for peace of mind I would go get an eye check up. Plus, if it's dry eyes, they can give you some drops to help if you're not already on some. My dad has these gel drops that he puts in and said they help a lot.
Hello Becky,
You need to go and see an optician if not ask to see an opthamologist after taking plaquenil as these symptoms do occur with it but some of your symptoms sound like sjogrens syndrome....are you diagnosed with it?
becky you can buy these preservative free eye vitals to help your eyes also.
Systane ULTRA UD 0.7ml Lubricant eye drops.
Terri :)
Need an eye DOCTOR, PhD. I have seen several. The blepharitis dr. saw mw and put me on Restasis. The eye lid dr. referred me to the cornea dr. The cornes dr. referred me to the contact lenses and trouble seing dr. My treatment now is:
* Wash eyes with baby shampoo at least twice a day.
* Lastavaft drops (Rx)
* Restasis drops (Rx)
* Soft contact lenses to avoid the eye lids to scratch the cornea (Rx)
* Artificial tears (Systane Ultra) as needed (over the counter)
* At night, Refresh Lacri-Lube ointment (over the counter)
Try the over the counter stuff first to see if it works. I like the ointment before bedtime.
Tez, I see opthalmologists, not opticians. The latter only deal with getting people glasses.
Does the spot stay in the same place and is it present all the time? If it was damage related to the plaquenil the answer would be yes to both of those. I started having ocular migraines, where the migraine takes place near the optic nerve. I will see a spot but it moves and it goes away after about 20-30 min. When I discussed the spot with my ophthalmologist he said if it was damage from the plaquenil, the spot wouldn’t go away. Hope this helps. My ophthalmologist uses a photo mapping machine that actually takes a picture of the retina so a spot related to plaquenil would be easy to spot. It’s $15 extra but that’s worth it to me. Good luck!
I agree with what the others said...with Plaquenil my Rhuemetologist stays on top of my eye check ups. It's very important that you do so as well as it will cause just one more issue you don't need to deal with.
