Morning!
Wondering if anyone has experience in their blood NOT clotting? A fortnight ago I had a skin biopsy and "we had a bleeder". I had a simple blood test today and again, wouldn't stop bleeding without a pressure bandage for the next few hours. Just seems very odd as I have never experienced anything like this.
Be interested of anyone has any thought here??
Cheers

Do you take any kind of blood thinner? Like warfin. Unusual bruising?
My problem has been the opposite, clots that went to my lung. When on Coumadin, a great lab vampire taught me a trick, after they draw blood, put a cotton ball on the site with pressure, and hold it up above your heart level, will make it stop. Minght take a minte or two, but does work.
I just yesterday asked my doc about my bleeding. It isn't bad, but I'm definitely not clotting like I normally would. If I accidentally knock a scab off, I make a bloody mess unless I immediately put a bandaid on it, no matter how small the scab was. ::shrugs:: He said it was due to the ibuprofen I've been taking regularly for the last few months. He said it acts like aspirin in that it thins the blood with extended use. I'm not real thrilled about it, but now that I know, I can at least mostly avoid making a mess next time!
No blood thinners, bruising yest but mostly because I am a clutz

I was diagnosed with von willebrands with possible qualitative clotting defect, just means that my blood doesn't clot properly. It's a genetic disorder. Mine wasn't discovered until I was fifty years old. Before that, I would just have all kinds of spontaneous bleeding, nose bleeds, heavy and long menses, bleeding with nsaids, any type of antiinflamatories, vitamin E, fish oils, certain herbals etc.
A hematologist could test you to see if you could have something like that. It's a good thing to be aware of since, under certain circumstances, it could be life threatening.

Thanks Ally. I have never had an issue before the past fortnight. I turn 50 in less than a month :))
Noahandme,
50 is an interesting age. Menopause wacked my body out at 50, and now I'm going to be sixty in a few days and I'm still diddling around with the hormones. But I like being this age for other reasons and so I enjoy the positives......Ally

Yep, I agree Ally, after all, the alternative really isn't an option, is it ?!? lol. Happy to turn 50 with the wisdom I have gleaned so far and the knowledge I have so much more to learn. I hope you have a WONDERFUL 60th birthday xx
Cheers Amanda
Noahandme,
Thank you! And same to you when your birthday comes. Illness has taught me things that I would never have learned otherwise. So, can't wait to see what I learn next.
