so a couple a years ago i got implanon as my birth control( its a matchstick sized rod that goes into your arm and for 3 years it prevents pregnancies) but i went to the doctor months ago and they asked me what birth control i was on & i told them implanon & that i had lupus & they said lupus patients shouldn't have that one.i forgot why .Has anyone talked to there doctor about which birth control is right for lupus patients.? i would appreciate any help. thanks(:
I use the Nuva ring since before I got diagnosed and I love it. It’s just the easiest for me. My rhuemmy knows I’m on it and has never said anything negative. Hope this helps.
I have heard good things about Nuva ring. Talk to your ob/gyn and see what they recommend. I always had trouble with birth control pills and could not take them but so much has changed over the years.
I am in azzurette. My rhemy said u need something with a low estrogen otherwise u can have more flares.
Definitely let me know. I haven't used birth control in years and now I need to. Please share whatever information you can about birth control and sle!
I take the depo shot, I know the risk of blood clots, but I have done well on it for at least 12 years, and I don't get flare sick every month on it. I had a miscarriage due to blood clots and take aspirin daily, but I have found the depo works wonderful for me. Discuss with your Dr. and decide what's is best for you, is my advice.
I use Depo as well. I have had no problems and it’s only once every 3 months.
Hello :)
So my situation may be kind of different, because I have a history of bloodclots and am much more prone to bloodclots in the future. Due to my heavy menstrual I concluded that I wanted to try birth control as a controlling method. And after speaking with my gyno and rheumatologist who was also acting as my hematologist at the time, we went with an IUD (Mirena) because it is the method that will least likely cause blood clots due to releasing of hormones and such. Like I said, this is just based on my health history, as I don't really know yours. But I hope this helps you somewhat!
Thanks ladies. I tried the implants when they first came out. It was horrible! I bled 3-4 weeks at a time, off for a week and right back on for another 3-4 weeks. The depo shot was the same way. I got it to control my bleeding because of my severe anemia but instead of stopping my periods they wouldn't go away!
My doc says absolutely no estrogen. Only progesterone! Goodluck! God bless
