Don't worry. I am definitely not picking my own. I am too old and my bones are too weary for that. But even the large supermarket chain stores have started selling local produce - as result of customer demand. So, I use this to work on my menus and my shopping lists. Right now, I eating apples and butternut squash and fresh raspberries almost every day. Pumpkins .....

What is really good and fresh and nutritious where you live?

My friends at LWL,

I've just discovered the dangers of GMOs (genetically modified organisms). This means that a good 80% of crops in the USA are GMOs, having bacterial or viral DNA put in a plant to create different features for the plant. Called organism and not plants because of the source of DNA, typically not a plant any more with the foreign DNA. Europe and Japan do not allow GMO crops to be sold on their markets. Lots of testing done in Canada. In the USA foods are not labeled GMO. Food animals are fed these crops.

The HMO that I belong to has just come out with this information: It has "quietly" recommended that food with GMOs are a serious health risk. It has recommended that Trader Joe's (no GMOs, some organic) or Whole Foods Markets (with non GMOs, and organic foods) as sources of foods without GMOs and also recommends organic food overall for a healthy diet.

There has been extensive studies done in Canada. Some of the studies allude to these foods affecting the immune systems in laboratory rats and mice. I still need to do more reading. However, I have just switched to a non- GMO diet .

Makes me wonder what impact this has had on all of us with immune diseases. Just thought I'd mention this to add a little spice to this discussion about "improving" our nutrition.

Great link Ann. We are making great progress in our area with local farmers' markets. And our local chain grocery stores are now selling local produce.

We are enjoying peanuts, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and the last of fresh peaches. We also have some apples. Fresh greens will appear soon.
