GMO's

There seems to me more and more questions about a possible link between Genetically Modified Foods and auto immune diseases. Is anyone avoiding GMO's? If so, have you noticed any changes in your health. A friend was dx with Lupus twenty years ago. Her daughter was also diagnosed with lupus and her husband with graves disease. She has been eating organic food for the past 15 years and she and her family members have been off all medications and free of evidence of their illness. I am not eating strictly organic foods but have definitely moved in that direction.

I have gone Gluten free and I am also not eating GMO'S and trying to eat organic also. I feel terrific! I am still taking Plaquinil but I may stop it soon. I feel like I did before I was diagnosed with Lupus which is 3 years ago.

I stay away from GMOS as MUCH AS POSSIBLE - and in doing so I have more energy less fatigue, less flares and headaches- I don't know why people cant understand that GMO' s play a major role in health . sometimes I wonder if people even understand what GMO's are - in reality its food made with crappy chemicals that have warnings not to EAT THE CHEMICALS including our sprays we use in our yards, and the cleaners in our homes. we KNOW this stuff causes issues, but we don't want to accept it - but gmo's are illegal in some countries! I also stay low on the carbs . almost like a paleo diet- because cares are natural inflammitories . I am not saying GMO's cause lupus but they sure bring it out! like I alaways thought there is both enviremental and genetics in this disease- GMO's are also known for Cancer, and neuromuscular disorders, . . with medical research backing it up.

But why would the media fight to say they are okay.......

......the same reason they also thought cigarettes were OK to see-

its money. its cheap. and it makes veggies and fruit look pretty

... the chemicals in GMO food are used so insects and other things don't get to them

......ever wondered why the insects don't want anything to do with GMO's?

same here!

I was diagnosed about 3 months ago with Lupus and was prescribed Plaquinil then so I have not taken this medication long enough to see a difference yet. At the same time my wife got a couple of books on eating better when you have auto immune diseases. So after being almost gluten free and more and more organic foods the last couple of months my severely dry skin is not dry/red/painful at all in fact my skin is not dry at all now. So we have become believers in not eating foods containing gluten or that has been genetically modified. We are waiting to see how it effects my Lupus as well.

Yes !!! I am very happy to say it does make a difference for me. My daughter has RA and is also organic and supplements. I highly recommend . Wishing you all a wonderful day

Thank you. I have already switched to organic meets. I get organic produce for the dirty 13 fruits and vegetables. I am starting to read labels more closely and am amazed at how many places gmo's hide. When I read the list of foods that contain GMO's from the GMO project, I found it scary to think what we eat. Granted, when I eat out, I can't control all aspects of food but am trying to at least limit the chemicals in my body. I am moving away from plastic containers (even BPA free) as it is just a matter of time before another chemical in plastic ware turns out to be dangerous. I have been bringing my lunch to work in glassware the past year. I recently bought a glass (lifefactory) water bottle and have been drinking a lot of home made infused waters. I have started to make my own vegetable juices in the blender. It just doesn't make sense to put a myriad of chemicals into a body that is already hyper reactive. I am amazed that after reading about the chemicals in our foods, my husband is actually on board with modifying our diet

I developed lupus when I was 7 and ate whatever my mom cooked for me (1970’s). She grew her own vegetables and shopped at farmer’s markets so I doubt that I was eating GMO foods back then. However, I have switched to a primarily vegetarian diet as conventionally raised cattle, chickens, etc… make me very sick. All the hormones etc… that they pack into them trigger IBS attacks and flares. GMO corn fed to them doesn’t help either. I also try to buy fruits and vegies that are heirloom varieties or locally grown. I live in CA in the country so fruit and vegie stands are everywhere and it’s easy to find organic produce. So I don’t really know if GMO foods make me worse or not but I know that conventionally raised animals do make me sick. Grass fed beef etc… is too expensive for my budget so I stick to fish and eggs for protein. My friend raises chickens so I get fresh eggs ; ) I hope I kind of answered your question. Hugs, Annemarie

I eat organic food as much as possible because it avoids GMOs and spraying. Since I don't have Celiac disease I do eat wheat. I do feel best eating a balanced organic diet with my four autoimmune diseases one of which is lupus.

In the course of reading about GMOs I've determined for myself that GMOs are more dangerous than chemical insecticide and wheat abatement. In the case of animals it's the food they eat that has GMOs The GMOs contaminate and follow the food chain just like antibiotics (another story). And who the "h . . " eats stockyard beef or pork or hormone chickens.!? GMOs are produced by transferring genes from one organism to another, in this case to plants. GMOs are definitely not chemical. It's very tricky to avoid the food that has been modified.

Below are some articles about this biological nightmare. They links are from Wikipedia and have multiple references so you won't have to stop short just reading this information.

And, yes GMOs are hidden. Even Kaiser came out that it's best to eat organic foods because of GMOs and sprays..

You got to hold on.

I remember when I first was diagnost with PCOS and Hashimoto , my endo at that time highly advice me to switch to imported dairy products and gluten free food and organic veggies ant fruits .
I did noticed a different of cours but I was just recently diagnost with lupus …so I’m sure the diet helps a lot to mainten healthy life style but I’m not sure it’s can cure autoimmune diseas …:frowning:
