I need oral surgery to remove a tooth whose root is being resorbed by my body. Sounds autoimmune to me. I asked my Rhumetologist who hadn't heard of such thing with Lupus. This is actually my second tooth to do this---Years ago I had a molar removed and bridge put in due to this. Now, a molar next to it is doing the same thing and the bridge broke causing lots of pain. I'm on SSDI and Medicare and no dental. I also have Type 1 diabetes (autoimmune) and lots of medical costs. I can't believe this isn't considered a medical problem! The dentist said it was obvious I take good care of my teeth and it's just one of those things they don't know why it happens. So, if anyone has knowledge of what this condition might be called and if medical could cover the surgery....I would sure appreciate it! I'm still struggling to get the lupus controlled---my joint pain and fatigue never stop and now I'm getting nausea and abd pain. Triglycerides through the roof. I'm on Prednisone which messes with my diabetes but I can't tolerate any of the lupus meds so far...I'm supposed to start Methotrexate and keep putting it off due to fear of Side Effects. I'm so sick of being sick.
Thank you so much Ann. As a matter of fact I wrote OHSU dental school earlier this week. I will try the Washington school too. Take care, Pam
Hey Pam! Has there been any mention of Sjogrens? Just after I developed my lupus, I also developed Sjogrens as well. Causes lots of dental stuff! Best of luck to you! And I! also! am sick of being sick!
Hi
I'm sorry you are having so much pain. I had stomach issues and diahrea till I starting taking VSL#3. It's a probiotic and I haven't had any diahrea since. Told my hairdresser and she has not had any diahrea since. I don't think it would hurt to try.
Stay Positive

Hi, Sjogren’s goes hand in hand with lupus. I have had all of my teeth replaced wirh crowns thanks to the Sjogre’s. I take really good care of them and I still get abcesses. Unfortunately, none of my dental work was considered medical even though it was caused by Sjogren’s. If you find a way to get medical to cover it, let me know. Good luck!
I have experienced problems, but it's because I have Sjorgren's Syndrome as well. This goes with lupus pretty often. I would ask my Rheumy about the possibility. I keep sugar free mints and gum always as lack of saliva can cause damage. This has really helped me as well as Biotene wash and especially the spray.
I hope some of these suggestions help...they have helped me.
Keep your chin up. I know it's frustrating, but you have a place to vent and people that are here to listen.
Big hugs,
DeAnne
Hi everyone
I just got a mouth spray for my dry mouth. It would probably help with saliva too. . You can vent here anytime.
Cindy
what's the name of the mouth spray?
Hi USAGIRL:
I weni Walgreens because they had Biiotene advertised on TV. m The girl there said Biotene was recalled, something about the packaging.I wet into rite-aid and got Rite Aid oral care mouth spray It works good but it doesn't last long.

I lost all my teeth due to dry mouth caused by my autoimmune diseases. BUT my dentist wanted my rheum to prescribe a drug that would stop the bacterial breakdown in my mouth due to lack of salvia...yes i was adding fake on my own plus sprays and drinking constantly.
RHeum refused because the drug has severe side effects but doing monthly blood tests it would catch any,...he was too lazy and now ...i should have argued harder. I did say how far does it have to go? he ignored me...so by time i went again, 4 months for normal appt...it was too late though he now said he do it but dentist said too much damage was now done.
SO FIGHT....having dentures at young age is pain. IF anyone knows any special kind of dentures or other things besides total implants...i cannot afford at $2 thousand a tooth since insurance will not pick up any. I appreciate messaging me personally.
I been very sick as are my dogs( lost one and other is in renal failure) plus i am running medium not low grade fevers so not on much.
But as to single tooth being impacted neither dentist, oral one nor rheum of about 3 different ones now think that just one but be like me with many or all impacted. But having infection can cause your lupus to become active..so one tooth could make you sick.
I have dentures, full upper and partial lower, which I got before I started having symptoms in my feet and then my lupus diagnosis. I do feel the two went hand in hand for me. When I was a young teen, I had experienced lupus symptoms and also dental problems.I don't have sjorgren's, I have raynauld's and fibro along with lupus.
