I was wondering if I should be selective in choosing a dentist since I take a long list of meds for lupus and RA. I need dental work but the majority of my meds say "inform your dentist" before having treatment. I take cellcept, prednisone, plaquenil, methotrexate. I am supposed to be on Orencia right now but I want to get my infected tooth pulled before trying it.
Boy thanks for asking. I completed my chemo and had my port removed so had to go off warfarin (blood thinner). Now is a good time to have a bad tooth pulled, so had same question.
I too am having a difficult time with my teeth. One tooth has a hole in it and is giving me pain, it has to go. Now I know it’s not poor dental care, it’s lupus.
I have a holistic dentist. He’s amazing. I’ve had many bad experiences in dental chair before. Love this guy. He is clearing up my gum disease and undoing the damage caused by wisdom tooth extraction. It pays to get someone who thinks about overall health. Tooth and gum health affect overall health. My guy is in New Jersey. Where are you?
I am in Georgia. The thing is I don't think my insurance will cover a holistic dentist. It's crazy! I've recently seen reputable medical journals stating that poor oral health is linked to several autoimmune diseases and yet it is difficult to obtain proper dental care here.

The dentist will tell you to stop meds for few before the procedure. Take a list of all the meds you take and discuss it with your dentist. He will tell which meds to stop taking before your procedure.Asia64
