Achy throat

Good morning! I hope everyone is enjoying their day! My Internet service has been in and out (mostly out-lol) but I think the problem was resolved, and I am SO thankful!

I always seem to have a sore throat, but not in the typical way. It’s like it is achy on both sides mainly just under my jaw and radiating behind my ears and down my neck. It also seems to be a bit swollen all the time. Sometimes it’s even difficult to swallow…
I have had strep throat 5 times in the last year so my doc referred me to an ENT. I have an appointment August 1, but I was just curious if any of you had similar issues.

Hugs,
Rachel

Hi SweetNov,

I think an ENT is a great place to start. They are so wise, so thorough. Hope it is easily treated and cured.

Hugs,

SK

Thank you, SK,
I really hope so, too!

I have the SAME problem swollen glands and an achy sore throat All the time, antibiotics dont help at all. I went an ent and he suggested to get my tonsils removed.........i dont see want good that would have done, but my insurance didnt cover it anyways so, im not really sure what could be causeing it, but if your ent suggests something better please let me know thanks:)

I’ll definitely let you know what he says! My primary doctor mentioned possibly removing my tonsils, but I feel like the problem is more in my lymph nodes, but idk. We’ll see… I’m having my gallbladder removed this month and I wish I could just tell them to go on and remove anything I don’t need! Lol

It may be your glands. I think with us having over active immune systems, we probably breathe in a lot of things that cause a reaction in our bodies. My throat is always dry and scratchy. I used to be able to carry a tune, but now at the end of the day, I find myself with a sore throat, barely able to speak… Since I do a lot of talking in my profession, I go through throat pain everyday. I usually like to drink some hot water, with a little brown sugar and lemon at night to soothe it. But it could be your tonsils, so seeing your doctor is not a bad idea. It’s saddening for me, because I used to enjoy singing. Now my voice cracks. Sometimes thyroid issues can effect your voice too, and many people with thyroid problems and Lupus experience hoarseness.

Hey Sweet,

Picking up some books the grandson pulled out and one was a book of home cures, now get this, said to get rid of a sore throat, eat a few marshmallows! Sounds rather silly, but what could it hurt, as long as you are not allergic, of course! It was opened to that spot this morning! Seemed like a sign, thought I'd pass it on!!

Well at least if the sore throat doesn’t go away, you got to enjoy a sweet treat! That is a strange home remedy! I know people who are from the South used to mix a concoction which included a spoonful of Vicks vapor rub to drink! My grandmother used to tell me about it, and of course I wouldn’t dare try it! Vicks vapor rub should never be eaten!

Oh yes, the Vick's salve was the cure all of my day, as a kid, it was always gobbed on me somewhere, and I have eaten it more than once! LOL! Someone even puts it on her psoriasis, bet that stings like the devil!

Oh, I used to be able to sing, too! I miss it. I can carry a tune, but like you, my voice cracks. I need to find a way to rock it like the gravelly-sounding voices that are so awesome! LOL
I have never heard of eating vicks! Maybe similar to a hot tottie? I had never heard of a hot tottie until I moved to this area. Apparently it’s some sort of alcoholic mixture. Haha

SK- marshmallows sound nice! I’ll have to try that. Thank you so much for the tip!

Rachel

Oh, you just made me really LOL, comparing vicks to a hot toddie! Not quite the same! A hot toddie is usually whiskey, lemon juice, honey and hot water, of course there are other variations, I have made a few in my old bartending days, not as popular as they were when I was a kid, or as the jello shooters, but may help! Hot buttered rum is better, in my opinion. What is the code you kids use IMHO?

Gotta tell you, SweetNov, I only use my cell to TALK, so figuring out this text code is like learning a new language!! Always a learning curve! LOL!

Wish we could hear you sing, yes a little of that GRIT in your voice may turn some heads! LOL! I have to tell you that with your haircut and the shades you look so much like Victoria Beckam, when she had her hair lighter! I think she was very pretty then, so it is meant as a compliment.

I just watched that Martin Scorsesse film about George Harrison, and on it George was gargling with brandy, and lemon juice, said Streisand and Clapton use it!

Get better, girlfriend!

Haha, I thought a Hot Toddie was with whiskey but wasn’t sure. I may have to try! LOL
I HATE texting so most of the text code goes over my head, too! I Google things ALL the time!
I think I could handle brandy and lemon juice! All these ideas flowing here, I should be able to find something that works! Hahaha

Thank you so much! Hugs,
Rachel
